Bridget Moynahan is officially returning as Erin in Donnie Wahlberg‘s Blue Bloods spinoff — but that’s not the only way she’s now involved with Boston Blue.

Wahlberg, 55, shared a photo with Moynahan, 54, from the Boston Blue set on Friday, July 18, writing, “Reunited and if feels so good! So excited to have my dear friend, and TV sister @bridgetmoynahan, join me for a special guest appearance in the premiere episode of #BostonBlue!”

He continued: “She’ll also be bringing her incredible directing talents to the show this season! More fun (and surprises) to come. 👀 Let’s go! 💙❤️.”

Wahlberg and Moynahan originally played siblings on Blue Bloods, which aired on CBS from 2010 to 2024. The police procedural got Us invested in New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) and his children: Danny (Wahlberg), Erin (Moynahan) and Jamie (Will Estes).

After nearly 15 years on the air, viewers were shocked when CBS pulled the plug on the show. This came after Wahlberg exclusively told Us Weekly that he hoped to see Blue Bloods achieve the same level of success as Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

“I mean, Ice-T and Mariska Hargitay have been going for gosh, so many years, and we hope to last as long as they have,” he shared in April 2023. “One of the things I’ve done is I try to just stay very present in each episode and take each script that comes my way and say, ‘OK, what’s gonna happen now? You know, what am I doing this week?’ And kind of find the journey in that particular episode and not get caught up in what’s gonna happen next year, what’s gonna happen in two years.”

Wahlberg joked at the time that he wasn’t opposed to the idea of a Blue Bloods spinoff, joking, “Danny and Erin become private investigators and move to Hawaii, but that was too close to [Selleck’s iconic 1980s series] Magnum, P.I., so we didn’t want to do that one.”

The actor got his wish with Boston Blue, which will expand the Blue Bloods universe as Danny “takes on a position” with the Boston P.D. No other Blue Bloods alums have yet to be announced — but Wahlberg hinted that there would be cameos.

“The viewers are saying, ‘How do we keep going with a Blue Bloods spinoff without the whole family?’ And I share that. How do we do that, right?” he told Fox News Digital in June. “Now, it’s just Danny going to this new world, but I can’t say a lot about it — but I could say, if he’s a Reagan, it will never be just Danny,” he added. “There’ll always be a Reagan a phone call away.”

Wahlberg continued: “And the traditions that the Reagans have, Danny wouldn’t abandon those traditions.”

Boston Blue premieres on CBS October 17 at 10 p.m. ET.
