Detroit Lions player Morice Norris has been hospitalized following an on-field injury in a game against the Atlanta Falcons.

According to ESPN, the athlete, 24, was attempting to tackle Atlanta rookie Nathan Carter on Friday, August 8, when the injury occurred and he was transported off-field in an ambulance.

The outlet reported that Norris appeared to inadvertently receive a “knee to the head” during the tackle ahead. The serious injury caused the game at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium to be suspended in the fourth quarter with 6.31 to go.

Lions coach Dan Campbell shared an update on Norris while speaking to reporters following the game.

“I’ll start with this. Obviously thoughts and prayers with Mo Norris. We got some positive information on him,” Campbell said.” He’s at the hospital, and I’ll just have to leave it at that. Something like that happens, it puts things in perspective. I’m just praying for Mo, I ask that everybody prays for him.”

While there is no detailed information on the severity of the injury yet, Campbell shared some positive updates.

“He’s breathing. He’s breathing, he’s talking. It’s good. He’s got some movement, and now they’re running more tests,” he said.

Campbell also explained the decision to suspend the sports game following Morris’ injury.

“Raheem Morris is a class act. He’s the ultimate class act. We agreed that it just didn’t feel right to finish that game. And that man’s a class act, always has been,” he said.

The coach also touched on how Morris’ injury affected the other players on the night.

“It’s just an eye-opener. It hits. It hits a little different and it puts things in perspective,” he said. “I tell you what. Man, it’s a violent game. We love it, but when stuff like this happens, the silver lining is the brotherhood. To see all those guys, from that team, our team kind of come together and everybody is thinking about another player, it just means a lot.”

The Lions also released a statement about Morris via its social media accounts later on Friday night.

“Morice Norris is in stable condition and has feeling and movement in all his extremities. He will remain at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta overnight for observation,” the team’s statement read.

“We would like to thank the Atlanta Falcons organization, the EMS team at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the doctors and staff at Grady for their support.”
