Robert Pattinson’s Mickey 17 just got its first teaser trailer. The upcoming sci-fi movie from filmmaker Bong Joon-Ho stars Pattinson as Mickey Barnes – an “expendable” crew member aboard a space colonization mission who’s brought back to life in a new body whenever he dies.
Judging by the number at the end of his name, the expedition hasn’t gone too well for him. The teaser doesn’t reveal much though, as it’s essentially a glimpse of Mickey awakening in some kind of futuristic cloning chamber, and that’s all we’re getting for now.
The film is based on Edward Ashton’s novel, Mickey 7 which is described as a high-concept thriller in the style of The Martian.

“Mickey7 is an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim,” reads the book’s synopsis. “Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous – even suicidal – the crew turns to Mickey.
“After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. Mickey signed on to escape from both bad debts and boredom on Midgard. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal… and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it. When he goes missing and is presumed dead at the hands of deadly indigenous creatures, Mickey8 reports for duty, and their troubles really begin.”
At the moment, plot details for Mickey 17 have not been revealed, and it’s unclear how closely the movie will adapt its source material. Pattinson will star alongside a pretty impressive cast that includes Naomi Ackie, Toni Colette, Mark Ruffalo, and Steven Yeun.
Joon-Ho will produce the film alongside Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dooho Choi. Peter Dodd will oversee the project for Warner Bros.
Mickey 17 heads to theatres on March 29, 2024.
