Jessica Simpson is celebrating her accomplishments amid her ongoing divorce from estranged husband, Eric Johnson.
“8 years ago today I made the choice to confront, to confess and to let go of the self sabotaging parts of my life that I was choosing,” the singer wrote via Instagram on Saturday, November 1. “Making that decision allowed me to fully live in the pursuit of Gods[sic] purpose for my life. Alcohol silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams and chased my circulating fears of complacency.”
She continued in the caption, which was accompanied by a smiling selfie, “Today I am clear. Today I am driven by faith. Both fear and faith are something that we feel and may not see, I’m so happy I chose faith over fear. It was not in the fight that I found my strength, it was in the surrender.”
The singer has been candid regarding her previous substance abuse issues and sobriety journey, previously explaining that she relied on alcohol to help her mentally and emotionally cope with her past traumas.
“I honestly couldn’t even tell you who got them ready. I was just dazed and confused, and I just wanted to go to sleep,” Simpson said during a January 2020 interview on Today, referring to a moment in October 2017 when she said she failed to show up as a mom for her kids — Maxwell, Ace and Birdie — on Halloween and realized she needed to get sober.
“I didn’t take them trick-or-treating,” she continued at the time. “I didn’t show up for my family. I took the picture and I made the world think that I had showed up.”
Simpson shares her three children with her estranged husband, Johnson. The pair announced their split in January 2025 after 10 years of marriage.
“Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” Simpson told Us Weekly in a statement on January 13. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
Amid her split, Simpson returned to music following a 15-year hiatus, debuting two new songs — “Breadcrumbs” and “Leave” — at 2025’s South By Southwest in Texas.
“It was an emotional coming back home to the best part of myself,” she wrote via Instagram under video footage from her set. “Thank you for embracing me. You know that I have so much to say, but this lucky voice gets to soar again tonight. I love y’all. More to come.
The singer also released two Eps, her first since 2020, and has been touring throughout 2025.
While focusing on her musical career, Simpson has since opened up about what she is looking for in her next romantic partner.
“I think I’m into younger men at the moment,’ the singer told Extra in an interview published on October 17. “When you’re newly separated … I feel like younger guys kinda like the confidence of an older woman, I’m discovering.”
