What’s Netflix serving up for the first weekend of August? Quite a lot, actually.
Since the first of the month falls on a Friday in August, Netflix is not only flush with new movies to watch, it also has fresh shows to enjoy.
The Watch With Us team has gone through this week’s programming options to select the three underrated Netflix shows to watch this weekend.
Our picks include a brand-new sitcom, a pro wrestling documentary series and a British science fiction show that’s already found a new audience on Netflix.
‘Leanne’ (2025)
Comedian Leanne Morgan and CBS sitcom veteran Chuck Lorre have teamed up for Leanne, a very old-school comedy about an older woman played by Morgan herself. Leanne’s husband, Bill (Ryan Stiles), has left her for another woman after three decades of marriage, which forces her to slowly rebuild her life without him.
3rd Rock From the Sun‘s Kristen Johnston costars as Leanne’s younger sister, Carol, who is also her closest friend in her time of need. Together, they try to take care of their aging parents, Margaret (Celia Weston) and John (Blake Clark), while also dealing with Leanne’s young adult children, Tyler (Graham Rogers) and Josie (Hannah Pilkes). Nothing is ever easy for this family, but that’s where the humor comes from.

‘WWE Unreal’ (2025)
The thing to remember about WWE is that the company wasn’t lying when it called wrestling “sports entertainment” for decades. Almost everything in WWE is scripted to a certain degree, from the outcome of the matches to the words coming out of the wrestlers’ mouths.
Netflix‘s steamy new psychological drama Delirium hasn’t broken into the top 10 shows yet, but that may soon change. WWE Unreal does offer some intriguing glimpses at how wrestlers like CM Punk, Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley behave alongside people who supposedly hate them in the WWE’s stories. That part and their open discussion about putting matches together is very interesting. But never lose sight of the fact that WWE Unreal isn’t the full look behind the curtain at WWE that it pretends to be. It can be entertaining, but it’s never completely real.

‘The Lazarus Project’ (2022 – 2024)
George (Paapa Essiedu) is an ordinary man suffering from an extraordinary problem in the British sci-fi series The Lazarus Project. As explained by a woman named Archie (Anjli Mohindra), George is one of the rare individuals who can perceive a time loop, which is why he’s been reliving the last six months of his life over and over again.
Being a member of the Lazarus Project gives George the chance to help change history for the better alongside other people who share his time loop awareness. But there’s a price to pay for this power, and the reach of time travel is limited. When the time comes for George to rewrite his personal history to prevent a tragedy, he may have to betray his own team to put things right.
