David Eigenberg is back on And Just Like That season 3 — but it’s not under the best circumstances.

During the Thursday, July 31, episode of the Sex and the City spinoff, Steve (Eigenberg) joins ex-wife Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and son Brady (Niall Cunningham) for dinner in her new apartment. Brady makes an impressive meal for his parents before revealing he wants to go back to school — the Institute for Culinary Education, to be exact.

“Our son, the chef!” Miranda gushes while raising a glass. As Brady leaves the room, Steve teases, “You know, this is ’cause of that show The Bear.”

When he returns to the dinner table, Brady says he has another piece of news. “So, I got someone pregnant,” he admits.

Shocked, Miranda says she wasn’t aware Brady was seeing anyone new. “Yeah, I’m not,” he explains. “It’s this girl I’ve hooked up with maybe twice. … Two or three times? I was pretty wasted.”

Steve has a hard time hiding his frustration, but Miranda tries to reason with Brady, despite him not even knowing the girl’s last name. “How pregnant is she?” Miranda asks her son, who replies, “Like, very.”

Brady explains that he only found out about the baby because he ran into his “clearly pregnant” hookup on the street near where she works.

“How do you know it’s yours?” Miranda wonders, adding, “It sounds like she sleeps with a lot of people.”

When asked whether he knows who will look after the baby once it’s born, Brady simply shrugs — which sets Steve off.

“Oh, man. You were just getting your life together and now you have f***ed it up so bad,” he shouts. “You got someone pregnant. Someone who’s having your baby, who doesn’t wanna be with you. Do you know how messed up that is? It’s f***ing messed up!”

Brady insists that the situation can be figured out together, but Steve thinks otherwise. “This isn’t about you and mom,” Brady argues, referring to a story line SATC fans know well. (Miranda and Steve were broken up when Brady was born in season 5 but eventually rekindled their relationship, getting married by the end of season 6. They split during season 1 of AJLT.)

Steve’s temper flares again, as he tells Brady, “I loved your mother. And I knew her last name. … You’re 20 f***ing years old and you don’t have $20 in your pocket for a f***ing rubber? You shrug your shoulders again and I’m gonna f***ing lay you out.”

Miranda tries to calm everyone down, but Brady is already making his way out the door to get “away from the verbally abusive and physically threatening parent.”

Neither Miranda nor Steve are able to eat their dinner, so she instead calls Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) for advice. “Apparently she’s showing so much there’s no ‘not being pregnant’ option,” Miranda tells her friends, adding, “Steve lost it. I’ve never seen him that upset at Brady.”

Unable to let the situation go, Miranda later goes out of her way to visit the hair salon where the girl — Mia — works. While Mia washes her hair, Miranda congratulates her on the pregnancy.

“Honestly, I was gonna get an abortion,” Mia says. “Until I realized the baby would be a double Libra. It’s gonna be such a f***ing vibe.”

Mia then clarifies that the extent of her relationship with the baby’s father is “f*** buddy status,” which prompts Miranda to — once again — question the paternity. Miranda reveals she’s “f*** buddy’s mother,” and Mia proceeds to spray water everywhere, calling out her “gross and inappropriate” behavior.

Miranda apologizes and expresses her hopes of getting to know the “little boy or girl” on the way. “Little boy or girl?” Mia replies. “You’re so binary.”

And Just Like That airs on HBO Max Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
