If the Real Housewives have taught Today’s Jenna Bush Hager anything, it’s that she and husband Henry Chase Hager should never renew their vows.
Jenna, 43, joked about the infamous Real Housewives vow renewal curse — a fan theory suggesting that franchise couples who renew their vows are more likely to get divorced — during the Wednesday, August 20, episode of Today With Jenna & Friends.
“Would you do a vow renewal?” guest host Savannah Guthrie asked.
“No,” Jenna quickly responded. “I don’t believe in [them]. Have you ever learned anything from the Real Housewives? You do a vow renewal, and two years later, you’re announcing your divorce.”
Savannah, 53, admitted that Jenna was “right about that,” as many Real Housewives couples have fallen victim to the alleged curse.
Real Housewives stars Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Kroy Biemann, Ramona and Mario Singer, Shannon and David Beador, Braunwyn Windham-Burke and Sean Burke and Vicki and Donn Gunvalson all split after renewing their vows, with each divorce adding fuel to the ongoing curse theory.
Savannah then asked her cohost why she thought this was a trend among reality stars.
“Do you think it’s because vow renewals are like you’re protesting too much?” she asked Jenna. “It’s really indicating that maybe under the hood it’s not so great?”
Jenna agreed, “I think that could be it. I just think it’s too much.”

She concluded that she and Henry, 47, “don’t need to renew” their vows.
Jenna and Henry met in 2004 while the latter was working on the reelection campaign for her dad, former President George W. Bush. Jenna was crazy about him, so she proposed after only three months of dating.
“He said no …” she confessed on Today With Hoda & Jenna in February 2020. “I might’ve had a Christmas cocktail — and we were dancing, and I said, ‘This is it, I know it, let’s just get married, what are we waiting for?’ He smiled, and he was like, ‘I’m crazy about you, but you’re young.’”

While Jenna’s initial proposal was unsuccessful, Henry later popped the question in 2007 during a trip to Maine. The pair tied the knot in May 2008, and went on to welcome daughter Mila, 13, Poppy, 10, and Hal, 4.
Henry gushed about his wife while making his cohosting debut on Today With Jenna & Friends in March.
“I love you. I would do anything for you, and I’m so proud of you,” he said. “You brighten my day and my life all the time, and so, let’s just do this and see how it goes.”
