When Joel and Ethan Coen were on their game, they made some incredible movies together. O Brother, Where Art Thou? was the Coen brothers’ reworking of The Odyssey set in the South in 1937. George Clooney leads the way as Ulysses Everett McGill, a convict who convinces his fellow prisoners, Pete Hogwallop (John Turturro) and Delmar O’Donnell (Tim Blake Nelson), to escape with him and reclaim a treasure.
The only treasure that Ulysses wants is his ex-wife, Penny Wharvey-McGill (Holly Hunter), and their three daughters. He has to win Penny back before she can marry another man. Luckily, Ulysses, Pete and Delmar are talented singes, and that goes a long way for them during their comedic misadventures.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? is streaming on Hulu.
