Sofía Vergara unexpectedly had to swap the red carpet for the emergency room.
The Modern Family alum, 53, was due to attend the 2025 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 14, but in an Instagram post later that night, she said she instead found herself in the hospital with an eye allergy.
“Didnt make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER 🤣😩sorry I had to cancel! Craziest eye allergie [sic] right before getting in the car!🤣🤣,” Vergara captioned a carousel of images and videos from her hospital visit.
The America’s Got Talent judge first shared a selfie in which her left eye appeared swollen and red. In a subsequent video, Vergara can be seen lying on a hospital bed waiting to be seen as someone behind the camera asks whether she was OK. In the final video, the actress is seen rinsing her eye with tap water.
Vergara’s Hollywood friends rallied around her in the comments. America’s Got Talent host Terry Crews wrote, “Oh no! Get well soon!🔥❤️.” Diplo commented, “oh no 😕😕❤️❤️.”
Supermodel Linda Evangelista wrote, “Uncommon to have allergy in one eye only, a derm can help 😘.”
Vergara’s unfortunate medical emergency came just 24 hours after she appeared fine at a boxing match between Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Vergara posed on the red carpet at the Saturday, September 13, event, which was streamed worldwide on Netflix, in a strapless black dress with lace detailing around the bosom.
Vergara is a five-time Emmy nominee with four Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series nods for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in Modern Family, the hit ABC sitcom that aired from 2009 to 2020.

Last year, Vergara earned her first Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie nomination for playing Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in Netflix series Griselda. After losing the award to True Detective: Night Country actress Jodie Foster, Vergara shared a humorous Instagram video poking fun at her misfortune.
She said to a friend off-camera, “Me lo robaron … por quinta vez,” which translates to, “They stole it from me … for the fifth time.”
In a subsequent post, Vergara shared a video of her biting into a burger at Netflix’s Emmys afterparty and captioned it, “I didn’t get an Emmy but I got a hamburger 😂.”
