Shaun White has taken a trip overseas following his split from Nina Dobrev.
The former Olympian, 39, shared a series of photos from a recent trip to Beijing, China, alongside a heartfelt caption about his days as a professional athlete. (White retired following his appearance in the 2022 Olympics.)
“Here in Beijing for the first time since the 2022 Games, feeling a bit nostalgic and excited to bring @thesnowleague back this December!” he captioned the post, uploaded on Sunday, September 14, promoting the snowboarding league he founded last year.
The first image featured White standing in the same pose as a photo taken from his time at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice that comments on the post were “limited” as well.
Sunday’s Instagram post marked White’s first social media post since news broke on September 11 that he and Dobrev, 36, had called off their engagement and split after five years together.
“There was no cheating at all during the course of their five-and-a-half-year relationship,” a source told Us Weekly exclusively when discussing White and Dobrev’s split. “They were very loyal to each other.”
The insider told Us that the couple was very committed before they decided to split. (Prior to the breakup news, Dobrev was posting about their wedding plans and a house remodel.)
“Any online speculation that suggests otherwise is ridiculous,” the same source said, referring to commenters speculating about the reason for their breakup.
Us confirmed in April 2020 that White and Dobrev were dating, two months after the former couple started sparking romance rumors. White proposed in October 2024.
“I went into shock,” Dobrev recalled during an interview with Vogue about the engagement. “I just froze and stared at him.”
Before their engagement, White spoke candidly to Us about having a long-distance relationship with Dobrev.
“We have a nice little system of how to stay in touch,” he shared in October 2021. “Plane tickets are pretty much booked for any opportunity that we can go see one another. So, I know during the holiday break, we’re going to meet up, and we’re going to meet up again probably around Christmas time. Anything that happens in between, then I’ll jet over and see her. You just make it work.”
The athlete added, “I think that’s the goal of it all and the key to it all is just making the time. [Nina’s] super organized and on top of it, so I give it to her. She always finds a way to make it happen.”
