Vivian Wilson, the estranged daughter of tech billionaire Elon Musk, is opening up about her personal finances.

“I’m financially independent,” Wilson, 21, said while speaking at Teen Vogue’s 2025 Summit on Saturday, September 20. “I’m making money now. Pre-Teen Vogue [cover], no. People have a lot of assumptions, and you just kinda have to deal with that.”

Wilson had previously squashed rumors that she’s personally wealthy because she’s Musk’s daughter in a September 2 interview with New York Magazine’s The Cut.

“People assume I have a lot of money. I don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars at my disposal,” she explained at the time. “My mom is rich, right? But, obviously, the other one is unimaginable degrees of wealthy.”

She also revealed she currently lives with three roommates, which helps her save money.

“I don’t have a desire to be super-rich,” she added. “I can afford food. I have friends, a shelter and some expendable income, which is nice and much more fortunate than most people my age in Los Angeles.”

The young model and influencer also admitted she’s not interested in the trappings of stardom despite having a famous father who seemingly revels in the spotlight.

“I’m not very good at being famous. It’s a skill. I fought so hard for so long to be viewed as a regular person,” Vivian also told The Cut. “There was a moment literally right before I became famous where no one knew who I was. It was amazing. Everyone treated me as a regular person. I kind of miss that, but I also like being famous.”

“But, I like the fact that it makes me money,” Vivian confessed. “I think about the support I get more than the hate, and it kind of outweighs it. I get a lot of hate posts about me. But what the f*** am I supposed to do about that? I don’t really have a choice other than to build a bridge and get over it.”

Elon. 54, was married to Wilson’s mother Justine Musk from 2000 to 2008, during which time the pair welcomed six children together. In addition to Vivian, they also share her 21-year-old twin brother, Griffin, as well as 19-year-old triplets Kai, Saxon and Damian. Their son Nevada died from Sudden Infant Syndrome when he was 10 weeks old.

Wilson and Elon have been estranged since at least 2020, when she came out as transgender. (Musk frequently shares his anti-trans views online.) While she did not elaborate on how their estrangement impacted her family life, Wilson told The Cut, “I had really, really, really, really — I can’t emphasize how many reallys are in this statement — really f***ing bad gender dysphoria.”
