Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was stabbed and rushed to the hospital, where he is now in stable condition.

The alleged incident occurred on Saturday, October 4, at around 12:30 a.m. in downtown Indianapolis, according to TMZ Sports

Sanchez, 38, was one of two people reportedly injured and taken to a local hospital.

According to a statement by the Indianapolis Metro Police Department on Saturday, “a physical disturbance” happened between two men. One man received lacerations during the altercation, while the other man received injuries consistent with stab wounds.

“Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between two men and not a random act of violence,” the IMPD said in the statement.

Fox Sports released a statement on Saturday afternoon, saying Sanchez “is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition.”

“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support,” the statement said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”

The former New York Jets quarterback is currently a color analyst for Fox Sports. He is in Indianapolis to broadcast the game between the Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, October 5.

Before his NFL career — which also included stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders — Sanchez was a star at the University of Southern California.

Sanchez married his wife, actress Perry Mattfeld, in May 2023.  The couple share three children.
