Selena Gomez celebrated the kickoff of Demi Lovato’s latest tour, marking their first public reunion in nearly a decade.

“I am in tears, [Demi Lovato],” Gomez, 33, wrote via her Instagram Story on Monday, April 13. “This was hands down one of the best shows. Oh and the VOCALS? Psh *blown away*.”

In addition to her rave review, a photo showed the two former Disney Channel costars sharing a hug backstage, with Gomez including a heart emoji over the image.

Gomez posted several other photos from opening night of Lovato’s It’s Not That Deep Tour at the Kia Center in Orlando, Florida. Earlier in the night, fans captured videos showing Gomez enjoying a support set from Adéla before Lovato, 33, took the stage.

Selena Gomez’s high-profile relationships have made headlines over the years, from her off-and-on romance with Justin Bieber to her brief relationship with The Weeknd. “I’m the kind of girl that loves tremendously big. I just have always been that girl,” Gomez told Miami’s Power 96.5 FM in May 2017. “I will give my heart and […]

Lovato’s reunion with Gomez was just one that evening. The singer also reunited on stage with her ex-boyfriend and Camp Rock costar Joe Jonas to sing a duet of “This Is Me” and “On the Line.”

Gomez and Lovato first met when they were both working as child actors on Barney & Friends in the early 2000s. A few years later, they both rocketed to fame as teen stars and even costarred in the 2009 Disney Channel movie Princess Protection Program.

In a 2010 interview, Lovato admitted it was difficult to bicker with Gomez in some Princess Protection Program scenes because they always got along so well off-camera.

“It was really hard because we’ve never really gotten into arguments before,” she said at the time. “We never antagonize each other like that. But it was fun at the same time.”

The pair reportedly grew apart as adults. Rumors of a feud between them began to swirl in 2010, when Lovato was asked by a fan how Gomez was doing, and she replied, “Ask Taylor [Swift].” (Gomez and Swift, 36, have been close friends since they were both dating members of the Jonas Brothers — Nick Jonas and Joe, respectively — in the late 2000s.)

Lovato confirmed her estrangement from Gomez in a Harper’s Bazaar interview in April 2020, saying that they were “not friends” anymore.

“I will always have love for her, and I wish everybody nothing but the best,” Lovato added.

That same month, Us Weekly exclusively reported that Demi had “no beef with Selena and there is no animosity between them” after falling out of touch.

“They’re just not friends at this point,” a source told Us in April 2020.

More recently, Gomez told the “Therapuss” podcast in August 2025 that it was great to see all of her former Disney Channel friends — including Lovato, the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus — “do their thing” as adults.

In September 2025, Lovato called Gomez’s support “really, really sweet” during an interview on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. The “Sorry Not Sorry” singer also congratulated Gomez on her impending wedding to Benny Blanco. (Gomez and Blanco, 38, tied the knot on September 27, 2025, at the Sea Crest Nursery in Santa Barbara, California.)

“I couldn’t be happier for her,” Lovato said. “She’s engaged. I just wish her the best.”

Lovato looked back on the pressure of living up to her Disney costars’ early success in March, telling the “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer” podcast that she “will always be grateful for the friendship that I have and continue to have” with Gomez.

“You naturally have insecurities at a young age,” she acknowledged. “So you start comparing yourself to other people.”
