A police officer in Florida was arrested after she allegedly blocked her boyfriend from the door and bit him when he tried to break up with her.
Marcia Sangronis was arrested on Tuesday, October 6, and was charged with one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm following the incident.
The investigation into the matter was launched on Tuesday when the alleged victim ran from Sangronis’ home around 10 a.m. and flagged down two patrol officers with the Hialeah Police Department, according to the probable cause affidavit viewed by Law & Crime. The victim told the officers that Sangronis, 38, “physically abuses him” and detailed the latest alleged attack.
The victim said the altercation began when he spent the night at her home. She allegedly initiated a discussion about the man’s “lack of motivation to pursue a career in law enforcement.” After claiming that she always “becomes angry and violent” when the particular topic comes up, he said he’s “learned to minimize conversations about his career plans and agree with Sangronis to avoid making her angrier.”
The next morning, the victim said he woke up planning to break up with her.
“The victim said when he told her he wanted to end things, the defendant became upset and stood in front of the doorway to prevent him from exiting the residence,” according to the affidavit. “The victim said he tried reaching for the doorknob, when the defendant said to him, ‘You are not allowed to leave.’ The victim attempted again to reach for the doorknob to leave when the defendant started to attack him.”
The victim added that when he told Sangronis he was “done with the relationship,” she allegedly “bearhugged him.” Once she dragged him away from the door, Sangronis allegedly bit him.
A Criminal Investigations Division technician photographed the victim’s injuries, which included three separate bite marks on his left arm, as well as several scratches on his body, arms and face.
Sangronis also provided a statement to police. However, it’s not currently clear what she said as her statement was redacted from the arrest affidavit.
Sangronis’ employer, North Bay Village Police Department, said Hialeah police notified the agency of the incident, and she was “relieved of duty with pay per our agency’s protocols,” according to WPLG.
“The North Bay Village Police Department holds all its personnel to the highest standards of conduct and fully accountable for their actions on and off duty,” the department said in a statement.
Sangronis was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, and she has since been released after posting a $1,000 bond. A judge has prohibited her from having contact with the alleged victim as a condition of her release.
It’s not currently clear if Sangronis has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following her arrest. The Hialeah Police Department did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment regarding updates in the case.
