Air tanker plane goes missing while fighting Oregon wildfire

A government-contracted plane was reported missing Thursday night near the scene of a wildfire in Oregon, authorities said.

The single-engine air tanker was assisting with the Falls Fire, officials posted Friday on Facebook page dedicated to providing updates on several wildfires.

The Falls Fire has burned more than 140,000 acres and was 55 percent contained Friday afternoon.

“Search efforts began immediately and will resume today. The fire is located near Seneca, Oregon on the Malheur National Forest,” authorities said,

Officials did not say how many people were on the plane.
