Like Nick Drake sang and Volkswagen emotionally leveraged, a “Pink Moon” is on its way, folks, and it’s shining in the relationship-centric, aesthetically sensitive charm as a weapon sign of Libra.

What a sight to see.

Full Pink Moon April 2025

This “Pink Moon,” otherwise known as the first full moon of the spring season, will reach its peak on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 8:22 p.m. EST.

Libra, cardinal air, is ruled by Venus, our planet of wealth and worth, assets and aesthetics. Fatedly, on the same day that the Pink Moon peaks, Venus will station direct after a biblical 40-day retrograde through Pisces and Aries.

This retrograde cycle called us to shake loose romantic delusions, diminishing returns and dicey spending habits, as well as the tendency to martyr ourselves for love and otherwise shortchange our spirits in pursuit of a cheap but fleeting dopamine rush.

Now that the planet is going direct, the Full Moon can fully light the way for clarity. It alchemizes these hard lessons and brings our primal impulses and better angels into a kind of parity, aiding and abetting our understanding of what relationships support and which subvert our personal power.

Venus’s double-down energy amplifies themes of beauty, magnanimity, embodiment and connectedness. Now is the hour for olive branches, apologies, self-care, veneration of the body and radical acceptance, seeing others for the flawed, luminous creatures and dormant gods that they are.

The spiritual meaning of the Pink Full Moon

Venus is also a lusty minx, so the light of this Full Moon might also inspire you to see your lover or lovers anew and with a revitalized sense of wanting.

The Full Moon in Libra will oppose the Sun and OG ouch daddy Chiron, currently conjunct in Aries.

Chiron represents our oldest wounds and most profound insecurities. This conjunction/opposition throws light and salt on themes related to worthiness and relationship patterning. This exhumation is in service of resolution and restoration. Trust that whatever comes up needs to come out.

Release, repeat.

During the Full Moon, the Sun in Aries and the Moon in Libra will both form a challenging square with Mars, our planet of drive and desire in Cancer.

This frictive energy can amplify our emotional reactions, particularly when we feel our needs are not being met or we’re giving more than we’re getting.

There is, as ever, a lesson in this tension. How can we communicate directly and effectively (Aries) about what we need to feel safe and satisfied (Cancer) in our closest relationships (Libra)? The way out is through and true my babies.

Full moon meaning

The full moon occurs when the moon is directly opposite the sun in its orbit around Earth. Spiritually speaking, that opposition — between yin and yang, light and dark — makes for a potent time for surrender and a heightened sense of emotionality.

As such, full moons are synonymous with closure and culmination, clarity and cord-cutting.

Full moons point to zodiac polarities as the sign the full moon falls in is always in opposition to the sign the sun is shining through.

This weekend, the Sun in Aries, concerned with autonomy, opposes Full Moon in Libra, the sign of partnership. This is the axis of me vs. we.

These two signs are respectively ruled by the divine feminine (Venus) and the archetypal masculine (Mars).

This moon asks us what needs to shift (Aries) for balance to be restored (Libra).

While these two cardinal energies are opposites, they also feed each other; as air lends fire logic and fire moves air to action. This is the axis of identity, between balance and boldness, radical individuation and receptive collaboration.

Libra can limit with the belief that ‘you’re nobody til somebody loves you’ while Aries reminds us, like a Whitesnake anthem that alone equals on fire with freedom and we should never settle for anything less than exactly what lights us the f—k up.

Libra wants peace at all costs, and Aries wants progress at any price. This moon asks us what needs to shift (Aries) for balance to be restored (Libra).

American luminary Dr. Maya Angelou, herself an Aries sun/Libra moon, embodied this polarity and speaks to the true, emancipatory potential of relationships when she writes,

“Love liberates. It doesn’t just hold—that’s ego. Love liberates. It doesn’t bind.”

Dr. Maya Angelou

“I am grateful to have been loved and to be loved now and to be able to love, because that liberates. Love liberates. It doesn’t just hold—that’s ego. Love liberates. It doesn’t bind. Love says, ‘I love you. I love you if you’re in China. I love you if you’re across town. I love you if you’re in Harlem. I love you. I would like to be near you. I’d like to have your arms around me. I’d like to hear your voice in my ear. But that’s not possible now, so I love you. Go.”

We can only love in full if we love for free, folks.

Why is it called the Pink Moon

The Pink Moon is the first full moon of Spring. Onkamon – stock.adobe.com

Despite the moniker, the moon will not actually appear pink in the night sky.

Neigh, the first full moon of spring is named for the seasonal return of the ground phlox, a sprawling, butterfly-baiting wildflower also known as the creeping phlox, moss phlox, or moss pink, from which this full moon gets its name.

Adding to the pastel, fertility positive word association, this moon is also known as the sprouting grass moon, the egg moon, and among coastal tribes the fish moon, as this was the time shad species swam upstream to spawn.

In all of these names we see the insistent push of new life and the promise of abundance to come. It’s an open call to compost lingering emotional bulls–t, cut loose energy siphons and make room for what wants to sprout up.

After all, aren’t we all just trying to swim upstream to spawn?

As a result of the full moon shining in a cardinal sign, these folks will be feeling the effects of the lunation most acutely, looking at you, Libra, Capricorn, Aries and Cancer.

If you fall under these stars as Sun, Moon or rising, take extra good care of yourself in the coming days.

If you love someone with these cardinal placements, be gentle with them, tread lightly, forgive easily and offer affection recklessly.

When is the next full moon

The next Full Moon is the Flower Moon in Scorpio, blooming and dooming on May 12 at 12:56 PM at 22 degrees of Scorpio.
