Elon Musk’s ex Ashley St. Clair is opening up about her decision to turn down an eight-figure non-disclosure agreement and participate in the Musk documentary.
“Because on my end, I was offered the opportunity not to speak for $40 million,” St. Clair, 28, said at a Venice Film Festival press conference on Tuesday, September 8, per Variety. “So when you’re offered something like that, it really causes a debate in your head about what your speech means and how valuable that is, and why do they want to offer me this amount of money to not speak?”
St. Clair, who welcomed the billionaire’s 13th child last year, went on to claim that Musk’s “most complicated relationship is with the truth,” claiming, “So I think, most importantly, I want to set the example for my kids that you should never take being materially comfortable over speaking the truth.”
“I got involved with Republican politics when I was 18 after I met Charlie Kirk, and there was an air of ignorance,” she added during the press conference. “But that ignorance does not excuse any role in that. I hope the risk that I’m taking now in speaking out and trying to fight back at least helps a little bit.”
The Musk documentary from Alex Gibney premiered at the festival on Tuesday and reveals that “the so-called ‘visionary genius’ is little more than the 21st-century reincarnation of a confidence man,” according to the synopsis. Musk, 55, declined to be interviewed for the film.
In February 2025, St. Clair publicly identified Musk as the father of a son she gave birth to “five months” earlier.
“Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father,” she wrote via X. “I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child’s privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause.”
She added: “I intend to allow our child to grow in a normal and safe environment. For that reason, I ask that the media honor our child’s privacy, and refrain from invasive reporting.”

In the months that followed, St. Clair and Musk made headlines when she alleged that she turned down an offer of $15 million up front and $100,000 per month until the baby turned 21 to keep their relationship secret.
In March 2025, Musk claimed that he’d already given St. Clair “$2.5M and [was] sending her $500k/year” even though he did not know whether “the child is [his] or not.”
The following year, St. Clair got candid about rejecting the NDA Musk allegedly offered her. (Us had reached out for a comment from Musk at the time.)

“Originally, Elon had sent a message to me and Jared [Birchall] that said, ‘Wire Ashley $15 million for a home and reserve capital,’ and that was it,” she alleged on a June episode of the “Don Lemon Show” podcast. “A few days later, Jared has this two-hour long phone call with me, where he’s [saying] basically there’s going to have to be some sort of NDA.”
While recalling the events, St. Clair claimed that she told Birchall she would not sign an NDA and stood her ground when Musk allegedly offered “$15 million and $100,000 per month for 20 years.”
“I was never to disparage Elon. I was never to speak about anything, including his employees, his affiliates, nothing,” she claimed. “I replied to Jared and said, ‘I cannot in good conscience sign this.’”
From St. Clair’s perspective, she decided against signing an alleged NDA because it “wasn’t what was right for [her] children.”
“[I was] making the moral decision,” she said. “I had said to him, ‘I would rather go to a studio apartment with both of my children than sign this.’”
