Colin Jost is willing to dumpster-dive in the name of love!
The Pop Culture Jeopardy! host, 42, revealed on a recent episode of the Amazon Prime Video game show that he once looked through a dozen New York City dumpsters after his wife, Scarlett Johansson, feared she’d lost her engagement ring.
“My wife actually lost her engagement ring,” he recalled, per E! News, noting that Johansson, 40, thought she “accidentally threw it in the trash.”
The Saturday Night Live star continued, “I looked through 12 dumpsters of trash.”
Alas, Jost didn’t find any treasure in the trash, but he did get a surprise when he got home to the Black Widow actress.
“I went back to the house and she said, ‘Oops! It was in my pocket,’” he said, joking: “It was a great day for me.”
Jost and Johansson married in October 2020 and share a son, Cosmo, 3. (Johansson is also the mom of daughter Rose, 10, whom she shares with ex-husband Romain Dauriac.)
Jost recently admitted that his wife was “genuinely so shocked” by a risqué joke about her shared by Jost and Saturday Night Live costar Michael Che during their annual “joke swap” in December 2024.
“Costco has removed the roast beef sandwich from its menu,” Jost read out a joke written for him by Che. “I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.”
Johansson, who was backstage, was shown on camera and appeared to be both horrified and shocked when she heard the punchline.
“I was, obviously, surprised by everything, but they gave her a heads-up,” Jost said during a January 20 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “They were like, ‘Hey, would you be OK if Michael made a little, like, kind of vagina joke at some point?’”

Johansson was “open to it,” according to her husband. However, the joke was far from what either of them expected.
“I didn’t know where it was going and then the graphic came up for Arby’s,” Jost recalled. “Scarlett is backstage, like, ‘Oh, my God, that’s what it is?’”
Last year, Jost made rare comments about being a stepfather to Johansson’s daughter, Rose.
“I think part of the reason I fell in love with her is she’s a great mom,” Jost told The New York Times in a July 2024 interview. “I’ve known Rose, my stepdaughter, since she was 2. It’s weird. You get to actually preview someone as a mom.”
