President Donald Trump has responded to ABC pulling late-night host Jimmy Kimmel off the air over his comments about Charlie Kirk.
“Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED,” Trump, 79, via Truth Social on Wednesday, September 17. “Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done.”
Trump then took aim at two other late-night hosts, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, whose shows air on NBC: “Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible,” he claimed. “That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT.”
Us Weekly confirmed on Wednesday that Disney’s ABC decided to pull Jimmy Kimmel Live! from the network schedule.
“Jimmy Kimmel Live will be pre-empted indefinitely,” an ABC spokesperson told Us in a statement.
ABC’s decision comes after Nexstar Media, who owns multiple TV stations, reportedly threatened to eliminate Kimmel from its late-night lineup. The company told Variety in a Wednesday statement that its “owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future, beginning with tonight’s show.”
The company noted that it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”
