After being fostered by the Robertson family, Duck Dynasty‘s Rebecca Robertson Loflin is trying to make sure her own children are aware of their Taiwanese heritage.

Speaking to Us Weekly specifically about her oldest son, Rebecca explained, “We were trying to explain to Zane how I came into the family, how you became part of the family and his heritage. We try to go to Taiwan once a year so he would see that.”

Rebecca, who also shares 4-year-old daughter Holland and 6-month-old son Xander with John Reed Loflin, recalled Zane’s previous culture shock, “Now he knows he’s part Asian. Because at first when we told him he was half-Asian, he was so upset. He said, ‘I’m not half-Asian, I’m a boy,’” she recalled.

It took time for Zane to understand his Taiwanese roots.

“He didn’t get it when he was a baby but now he kind of understands. He’s very proud of having that multiple different culture in him and he’s very interested,” Rebecca continued. “We’re planning on a trip to visit Taiwan again this summer. I feel like this year is the year he really is learning about geography at school and all that kind of stuff.”

Willie, 53, and wife Korie Robertson started fostering Rebecca in 2004 when she was a 16-year-old exchange student for a year-long program. She has remained in their lives, opening up Duck and Dressing in 2019 with Korie and starting her Me & My boutique.

After growing up on screen, Rebecca found love with John, whom she married in 2016. Their relationship will be front and center in A&E’s upcoming reality show Duck Dynasty: The Revival.

“I was so nervous because we’ve been talking about doing this show for a while. There was a lot of pre-production stuff that was happening and I wasn’t pregnant at all. I didn’t know I was pregnant until we were already signing on to do the show and we’re like, ‘Oh no, this is not my plan,’” Rebecca told Us. “But it’s been so good.”

Rebecca recalled having “a lot of reservations” about putting her and John’s kids on the show, adding, “We’re like, ‘If they do not like it, they don’t have to do it.’ They didn’t sign up for it but they have been just loving it. They turn it on in front of the camera.”

She continued: “My kids don’t know anything different now because they’re growing up in this environment. They’re just loving it. Just because they know every time we’re filming, they know we’re going to spend extra time with the family. So to them it’s just play time and they love it.”

Getting to check back in with the Robertson family allows viewers to be reintroduced to everyone.

“We’re just so excited to share this part of our lives and our kids and all the stuff we have going on like all the new ventures we’re starting. It was just the perfect timing for us,” Rebecca continued. “We’re able to do it with family. So that was definitely one of our biggest things. If we’re doing it as a family then we’re having fun and we’ll do it.”

Rebecca hinted that fans are in for a “fresh new cast” with some familiar faces.

“It’s just going to add on to all the different dynamics we have within the family. There’s some really fun people that have joined our family lately. It is going to show what our different stages of our lives are too,” she shared. “Now we all have young kids, we are raising a family or people just got married or they’re trying to start a family. There’s just so many things people can relate to and bringing in all generations.”

Duck Dynasty: The Revival premieres on A&E Sunday, June 1, at 9 pm. ET.
