Emma Roberts Joins Aunt Julia Roberts in New York for Rare Red Carpet Appearance

In a rare public moment, Emma Roberts and aunt Julia Roberts hit the red carpet together.

Captured via Vogue’s Instagram account on Tuesday, September 9, the public reunion between Emma, 34, and Julia, 57, served in celebration of a New York Fashion Week event.

Footage captured the actresses, whose flame-hued tresses appeared almost identical in shade, greeting one another with kisses on the cheek before posing for photos of French fashion designer Simon Porte Jacquemus. (The party marked the unveiling of Central Park’s Veuve Clicquot and Simon Porte Jacquemus public experience.)

While the Pretty Woman star sported black tailored pants and a matching suit jacket buttoned over a white shirt, Emma opted for a floor-length black gown adorned with a transparent mesh panel just below the bust.

Once the pair’s snaps with Jacquemus, 35, wrapped, Emma and Julia engaged in animated conversation that led to laughter. They then posed together on the red carpet without the designer, both flashing broad grins as camera bulbs flashed.

Emma is the daughter of Julia’s older brother, Eric Roberts, and Kelly Cunningham, who divorced Eric, 69, when Emma was seven months’ old.

Film fans were delighted with the rare family sighting, taking to the Vogue video’s comments section to share thoughts. “Love their twinning hair,” wrote one fan, while another commented, “LOVE seeing you both together!!! #auntiegoals.”

The outlet expressed its own joy over the public outing, captioning the post, “There’s no party like a @simon_porte_jacquemus and @veuveclicquot party, just ask @juliaroberts and @emmaroberts, who turned the evening into a stylish family affair.”

While Julia and Emma are individually accustomed to red carpet events, the pair’s last joint appearance was in 2012 at the Los Angeles premiere of Jesus Henry Christ. Julia and her sister Lisa Roberts Gillian were producers on the film.

Prior to that, Emma and Julia held hands while attending the 2010 Los Angeles premiere of Valentine’s Day, a film that both actresses starred in.

But while it’s been some time between joint outings, Emma has spoken openly about her aunt in the past. In a June 2024 interview for the “Table for Two” podcast, Emma reflected on Julia’s significant global fame, revealing that she has learned a lot from her aunt’s past experiences.

“I saw very up close what that really looks like with my aunt Julia,” Emma said in response to a question about her own acting goals. “It’s fun and it’s great, but there is a part of it that’s really scary.”
