John Stamos’ 7-year-old is already proving that a love of acting truly does run in the family.

“I didn’t want him to go into acting, but he loves it,” Stamos, 61, exclusively told Us Weekly of his son William “Billy” Christopher Stamos’ acting prowess on Thursday, June 12, while attending the 54th Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction.

“He did his first play at the community center,” he added. “He did Beetlejuice. The sandworm.”

While Stamos may not have initially wanted his son to follow in his acting footsteps, the proud dad is certainly willing to cultivate his son’s interest in the craft.

“We took him to see Darren Criss last night [in Maybe Happy Ending], and he sat there and did not move,” Stamos told Us. “It was a great moment because Henry Winkler was there. He texted me yesterday. I didn’t even know he had my phone number. I walked into the theater and I see him and I couldn’t believe it, you know?”

Stamos and his son were able to go backstage, he explained, adding that his son “walked onto the stage and started spinning around and ran through the theater.”

“I think that’s going to be his calling,” he continued.

Stamos welcomed his son at the age of 54 with his wife, Caitlin McHugh Stamos, in 2018. The pair announced they were expecting two months before they walked down the wedding aisle and said “I do.”

“I’ll be a fun dad. I’ve been practicing for a long time,” Stamos said when announcing his wife’s pregnancy at the time. “I’ve done every schtick you can do with a baby on TV … all the bits and jokes and diaper gags. I’ll probably just do all that stuff.”

“I wanted to be a father my whole life and I wasn’t ready,” Stamos told Us of his experience as a father on Thursday. “I was confusing the universe with abusing substances. As soon as I [stopped] all my dreams came true with a beautiful wife and a fantastic son. He’s such a good boy.”
