Nothing is set in stone, but sure bets this year are the cast and crew of One Battle After Another, 2025’s most critically praised movie, so expect Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro and director Paul Thomas Anderson among the nominees. The film, about a burned-out revolutionary who has to save his daughter from a longtime enemy, has received plenty of key precursor awards, including Best Picture from the N.Y. Film Critics Circle, the National Society of Film Critics, the National Board of Review, the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes. Newcomer Chase Infiniti stars as DiCaprio’s daughter, and she stands a good chance of securing her first Academy Award nomination for her first big picture.

Other certain contenders are Timothée Chalamet for the rousing 1950s-set ping-pong dramedy Marty Supreme, Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal for the historical melodrama Hamnet, Amy Madigan for her creepy role as Aunt Gladys in Weapons and Michael B. Jordan for his impressive dual role in Sinners.
