Jesse Williams Is an Underrated Star
Grey’s Anatomy fans have known what a heartthrob Jesse Williams was ever since Dr. Jackson Avery appeared on their screens in 2009, but the actor hasn’t yet found the right vehicle to make him a leading man. In Hotel Costiera, he plays Daniel “DD” De Luca, an ex-Marine who works as a fixer for the wealthy guests of the eponymous hotel. That can mean anything from tracking down missing dogs to beating people up to transporting human remains back home across continents.
Williams handles the physical challenges of the role with aplomb, showing off action hero abs and a magnetic presence onscreen. He exudes charm and wit, tossing off one-liners and cheeky grins while inner conflict seethes beneath his piercing blue eyes. He displays excellent chemistry with his hired teammates: glamorous lawyer Genny (Jordan Alexandra), struggling but jovial aristocrat Tancredi (Sam Haygarth) and muscular childhood pal Bigné (Antonio Gerardi). It’s a showcase role that proves Williams deserves more leading-man opportunities.
‘Hotel Costiera’ Combines Low-Stakes Missions with High-Stakes Action
The thrust of Hotel Costiera’s plot centers around the disappearance of the hotel owner’s (Tommaso Ragno) daughter and D.D.’s quest to track her down. But despite the missing girl, the action set pieces, the heists and the stunts, Hotel Costiera has the feel of a cozy mystery rather than a Mission: Impossible. The setting is so sun-drenched and the characters so endearing that you always feel confident the good guys will prevail — and that’s what makes the show such an escape.
This balance of danger and fun makes Hotel Costiera an easy binge — an action series that entertains without ever feeling overwhelming.
The Setting Makes ‘Hotel Costiera’ Six Episodes of Vacation
As Genny says in one of the teasers for Hotel Costiera, the idyllic location is “like Neverland.” Every dramatic cliff, breathtaking coastline and opulent hotel room is a visual treat, bringing viewers into the world of the Amalfi Coast. It’s the visual spectacle you love from shows like The White Lotus without quite as much gut-wrenching drama.
If you’re yearning for an Italian escape that balances drama with humor and an appealing lead actor, check out Hotel Costiera on Amazon Prime Video. With only six episodes, it’s the perfect binge for a weekend getaway from your couch.
