Jaime King is being taken to court over an alleged $100,000 debt to her ex’s former divorce lawyer, Us Weekly can exclusively report.
According to court documents obtained by Us, the powerhouse law firm Wasser, Cooperman & Mandles, where celebrity lawyer Laura Wasser is a partner, said King owes them $98,441.16 in unpaid fees and $2,000 in interest.
The firm attached a 2024 court order from King, 46, and her ex-husband Kyle Newman’s divorce, which required the actress to pay the law firm fees her ex racked up.
The order instructed King to pay the law firm within 30 days or the firm was allowed to go after her for the money. The judge noted, “It is appropriate that [Jaime], the high earner in the marriage, pay those fees and she already agreed to do so.”
The law firm demanded King show up to court with information about her assets and money in her bank accounts to help them collect on the debt. The order warns King that if she doesn’t appear at the scheduled hearing, she may be subject to arrest.

King’s rep tells Us, “This is the first time Jaime or her current legal team have been made aware of this filing.”
The rep added, “The continued media attention on the mounting financial and emotional costs of this unnecessarily aggressive divorce highlights the unrelenting pressure Jaime has faced. For years, she has endured fear tactics and legal intimidation while doing everything in her power to protect her children and rebuild a stable life for them. Jaime remains committed to the healing for her family, and moving forward with grace. We respectfully ask for privacy and compassion during this time.”

As Us previously reported, King and Newman, 49, wed in 2007 and split in 2020. The exes originally agreed to share custody of their sons, James Knight, born in 2013, and Leo Thames, born in 2015, in a 2023 divorce deal.
In October 2024, Newman filed court documents accusing King of needing help after finding her “distressed.”

At the time, King’s lawyer released a statement denying Newman’s claims. Her attorney said, “It is unfortunate that [Newman] continues to utilize the court in attempt to continue … the filing of unfounded malicious claims and to use the children as weapons and pawns without regard to their privacy.”
In March, the judge presiding over the case awarded Newman primary custody of his sons. The court said King would have supervised visits three days a week and will continue to share legal custody with Newman. The visits will remain supervised until the court removes the provision.
The order said King’s custody could increase once she finishes a six-month drug/alcohol program followed by weekly drug testing.

As Us first reported, around the time King lost custody of her kids, she was forced to vacate her L.A. home after being sued by her landlord. The actress was accused of owing over $42,000 in bank rent.

“[King] has expressed to [the landlord] multiple times that she desires to pay the past due rent and vacate the premises prior to the end of the lease,” King’s attorney argued. “She has been acting in good faith to raise the funds to due so, however suffered continued setbacks and hardship due to the Los Angeles wildfires, which came within 800 feet of her home, forcing her to flee her home after mandatory evacuation orders were issued in the Nichols Canyon fire.”
King and the landlord eventually hashed out a deal, and she moved out within weeks.
