When Jessa Duggar welcomed her sixth baby with husband Ben Seewald, it was a family affair.

Jessa, 32, revealed in a video shared to her YouTube channel on Monday, August 4, that her 16-year-old sister, Jordyn-Grace, was the one who cut the umbilical cord. (Jessa announced the birth of the baby, whose name she has not revealed, the day before.)

“It was a sweet moment when it came time to cut the cord,” she said. “First of all, I said to Ben, ‘You’ve never cut the cord. You should cut the cord this time.’ Teasing him mostly because I know he has a very weak stomach for such things. He’s a huge support and encouragement to me throughout labor, but he doesn’t want to be near all of that. So, he’s like, ‘No, thank you.’”

“My sister Jordyn –- this was her first time to be at one of my births. And so, I said, ‘Jordyn, you should cut the cord.’ And she was really excited about that,” she continued. “So, she got to cut the cord. She’s like, ‘Wow, this is awesome. This is so cool.’ That was a sweet moment.”

Jessa Duggar and husband Ben Seewald’s love story keeps counting on. Jessa, one of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s 19 children, met Seewald at church when they were 20 and 17, respectively. “We went up from central Arkansas [where we lived] to the northwest part of the state, where her family lived,” Seewald recalled of […]

Jessa and Ben share sons Spurgeon, 9, Henry, 8, and George, 2, as well as daughters Ivy, 6, and Fern, 3. The couple also experienced pregnancy losses in 2020 and 2022.

The entire video shows the final days of Jessa’s pregnancy and the scary lead-up to the arrival when she experienced a blood clot, then suddenly stopped feeling the baby’s movement. Jessa detailed how she tried to stay calm, knowing panic would not help the baby, and said she phoned the hospital ahead of time to let them know the situation.

“They met us outside with a wheelchair, wheeled me in, they immediately take a doppler and try to find the baby’s heartbeat and they weren’t hearing anything,” she recalled. “They’re listening around, finally I told them, ‘I think baby’s back has been over here,’ and they checked, and sure enough they got a heartbeat pretty quickly.”

In the emotional YouTube video, titled “Heartbreak Over the Holidays,” the former Counting On star recalled breaking […]

It all happened in a short span, which she called “the longest 15 minutes of my life.”

Now a mom of six, Jessa is well aware of the comparisons fans may make between her and her parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, whose life with 19 kids became the subject of the TLC reality series 19 Kids and Counting.

“I’m not going to have 19 kids, but honestly, my mom is my hero. I love her. I adore her [and] she is my role model in so many ways,” she said in a YouTube video in May. “Her patience, her love, her gentleness [and] her kind speech. She is the golden example of a mother, in my opinion. So, when people say, ‘Do you want to be like your mother?’ I’m like, ‘Yes, please, Lord, help me.’”
