Joe Alwyn stepped into the spotlight at the 2025 Oscars.
The actor, 34, walked the red carpet on Sunday, March 2, ahead of the awards show at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Alwyn kept things classy in a chic black tux, white dress shirt and black bow tie. Adding a touch of glam to the look, he accessorized the suit with an arguably unconventional purple and yellow jewel brooch.
Alwyn served as a presenter during this year’s Oscars ceremony, presenting the award for Best Cinematography to Lol Crawley for his work on The Brutalist. Alwyn is a member of the cast of the already award-winning film The Brutalist, which also stars Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce. Alwyn plays Harry Lee Van Buren, the entitled son of Pearce’s wealthy industrialist character. The period drama is nominated for 10 Academy Awards this year, including Best Picture, Actor in a Leading Role for Brody, 51, Actor in a Supporting Role for Pearce, 57, Actress in a Supporting Role for Jones, 41, Best Directing, Best Film Editing, Best Music (Original Score), Best Production Design and Best Writing (Original Screenplay).
While Alwyn has been focused on his career as of late, his personal life continues to make headlines following his April 2023 split from Taylor Swift after six years of dating.

One year later, Alwyn broke his silence on his failed romance with Swift, 35.
“I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years,” he said in a June 2024 interview with The Sunday Times. “That is a hard thing to navigate. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.”
Alwyn continued, “You have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition. And the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that.”
Alwyn then acknowledged his and Swift’s low-key approach to their former romance, adding, “As everyone knows, we together — both of us, mutually — decided to keep the more private details of our relationship private. It was never something to commodify and I see no reason to change that now.”
In January, Alwyn made a rare statement about his breakup from Swift, insisting that he has moved on.
“That’s something for other people to do,” he told The Guardian, referring to the world’s reluctance to let go of his past with Swift. “We’re talking about something that’s a while ago now in my life. So that’s for other people. That’s what I feel.”
Alwyn went on to explain how he “tried to focus on controlling what I can control” while dating Swift, referring to her level of fame versus his own.

“Right from the beginning, I tried to focus on the things that are meaningful for me: friends, family, work, of course,” he said. “So noise outside of that, I think I’ve done what lots of people who find themselves in the public eye do, which is just try and ignore it. If you don’t, and if you let all of that other stuff in, and if it starts to affect you and your behavior, you’re living from the outside in. And then you’re pretty f—ed.”
He added: “I have great family and friends and real things in my life; those are the things that kept me tethered to the ground. So I don’t know how else to say it, it’s … just in a different room.”
Since the split, Swift has moved on with Travis Kelce, whom she has been dating since the summer of 2023, while Alwyn has kept his personal life out of the spotlight.
