Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson want to own the “gold digger” moniker — literally.
TCE Rights Management LLC, the company owned by the North Carolina football coach and managed by his girlfriend, filed to trademark the term to be used on jewelry and keychains, trademark attorney Josh Gerben reported on Wednesday, August 27.
The term pokes fun at the age gap between Belichick, 73, and Hudson, 24, who began dating in 2023. Belichick’s company also filed trademarks for “Chapel Bill,” “Belestrator,” “Trail of Salty Tears,” “No Days Off,” “The Belichick Way” and more.
Such a move should come as no surprise to fans. Hudson has made it a habit to subtly — and not-so-subtly — shade those criticizing the pair’s relationship. She posted a photo of herself via Instagram on Saturday, August 23, blowing a kiss toward the camera as she stood with Belichick on the sideline. Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” played in the background.
That post could be seen as a reference to those accusing her of being a distraction to the Tar Heels football program as Belichick enters his first season at the helm. ESPN’s Paul Feinbaum called the relationship exactly that in June, urging the legendary head coach to keep his girlfriend away from the program.
“I’m going to go where I shouldn’t go, but then again, we’re talking about Bill Belichick. He has fired coaches, gotten rid of great players, he separated from the greatest quarterback of all time — it’s time for Bill Belichick to fire his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson,” Finebaum said at the time. “Listen, I’m happy for them, but North Carolina hired him because he’s a great coach, not to be a distraction. He’s a major distraction right now in this game of football. I’m sorry.”
The trademark filing also comes just days after North Carolina announced that the team would participate in a season-long Hulu docuseries — big news, considering the university’s high-profile fallout with HBO over a potential Hard Knocks season in Chapel Hill.
“It’s going to feature the players working hard, which you guys do,” Belichick told his team in a clip North Carolina posted via X on Sunday, August 24. “It’s about the players improving and getting better through their hard work, which you do. And a program starting from where it started from several months ago to wherever it’s gonna go during the course of the season, which, of course, will be determined on the field.”
“It’ll show our commitment to winning,” Belichick continued. “It’ll show our commitment to the team, and that’s our priority.”
