Kaitlyn Bristowe is clearing up speculation about her new breakup song, “Lonely in Love.”

The former Bachelorette, 40, dropped her latest musical effort on June 19 to mark her 40th birthday, prompting fans to wonder whether the lyrics are about her ex, Jason Tartick.

On Sunday, June 29, Bristowe posted a video of herself listening to the heartbreak ballad via her Instagram Story and appeared to dispel the fan speculation.

“I’ve been seeing a lot of people guess who this song is about. But it’s not about that person. I wasn’t in love at the end,” she wrote over the video, alluding to the song’s lyrics about navigating the end of a relationship and still having feelings for the other person.

Things got hotter in Bachelor Nation when Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick kickstarted their headline-making relationship in January 2019. They confirmed they were dating just two months after the former Bachelorette and her ex-fiancé, Shawn Booth, called […]

“Have you ever been lonely in love? It’s a really sad, hard, heartbreaking feeling. I love writing, and singing about things I can reflect on,” Bristowe captioned an Instagram post showcasing the single’s cover art. “Things that broke me, and built me. Recently, I had @melrobbins on my podcast. She had me promise her that I would create more music. I told her I had a fear of looking stupid. I tell myself, ‘You’re not a singer.’ And if someone wants to make me feel stupid, ‘let them’. But I am a singer. I’m also a writer. And I’m also 40 today.”

“Continuing to always push myself to get comfortable being uncomfortable. I hope this song makes you feel something. Either empowered to leave, proud you got out, or just simply going through something right now that could also pass. I love you all so much. Thank you for supporting my dreams, big or small,” she concluded.

On the track, Bristowe laments a relationship that has reached its end. “Perfect / If you just looked at the pictures, it was perfect,” she sings. “If you took the time / to look behind the curtain / you’d see the reason I felt stranded.”

Bristowe later croons, “You took my heart and everything for granted / And I just ran through the motions / Burned out and broken / You’d think you’d notice me / Lying awake in a bed we just sleep in / Dreaming of reasons to not give it up.”
