Katy Perry wasn’t prepared to sing a bittersweet song amid her split from Orlando Bloom.
Perry, 40, seemingly addressed the breakup while fulfilling her fans’ request to perform “Not Like the Movies” during her concert in Inglewood, California, on Tuesday, July 15.
“You’re gonna make me sing this song in this time in my life?” the pop star asked the crowd, per People. “OK, we’ll do it! Because you voted for it.”
Perry continued, “I let you choose the song tonight because I like to pick an album for every country that I go to and for the U.S.A., I picked Teenage Dream because U.S.A., you could be a teenage dream baby. You better get it together. I’ll always have that feeling for you.”
Introducing “Not Like the Movies,” she explained, “This next song I wrote in my 20s … after my first divorce.”
Perry then quipped that she’d “try and hold my composure while I sing it a week before my period.”
Last month, Us Weekly broke the news that Perry and Bloom had called off their engagement after nearly a decade together.
“Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable,” a source exclusively told Us at the time. “It’s not contentious at the moment. Katy is, of course, upset but is relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life.”
Perry was married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012. After parting ways, she and Bloom, 48, are focused on raising their 4-year-old daughter, Daisy.
“They are still very much in touch and coparenting Daisy together,” a second insider told Us. “Orlando brought Daisy to meet Katy on tour before heading to [Jeff and Lauren Sánchez Bezos’] wedding. It’s not messy between them. They aren’t making drastic changes for Daisy’s sake.”
Earlier in July, Bloom took to Instagram and shared a photo of him alongside Perry, Daisy and his 14-year-old son Flynn, whom he shares with ex Miranda Kerr.
Us understands that Perry and Bloom mutually separated at the beginning of the year.
The Lord of the Rings actor and the “Firework” singer were first linked in 2016 but broke up less than one year later. They got back together in 2018 and Bloom proposed the following year.
“We weren’t really in it from day one,” Perry said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in September 2024 about their initial split. “He was, in a way, because he had just done a time of celibacy, and he had set intentions. I was fresh out of a relationship, and I was just like, ‘I can’t do this anymore. I need to swim in a different pond.’”
