Tatiana, one of the late John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’ grandchildren, revealed in November 2025 that she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia after giving birth to Josephine in 2024.

“They have held my hand unflinchingly while I have suffered, trying not to show their pain and sadness in order to protect me from it,” Tatiana recalled of her family’s support in a New Yorker essay. “This has been a great gift, even though I feel their pain every day. … Now I have added a new tragedy to [my mother’s] life, to our family’s life, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it.”

According to Tatiana, her rare form of cancer was unable to “be cured by a standard course of treatment.” Instead, she underwent chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant.

Zero,” Shriver wrote via Instagram. “Tatiana was a great journalist, and she used her words to educate others about the earth and how to save it. She created a beautiful life with her extraordinary husband George, and children Eddie and Josie. She fought like a warrior. She was valiant, strong [and] courageous.”

She continued, “My heart has always been with my cousin Caroline ever since we were little kids. My entire being is with her now. What a rock she has been. What a source of love she has been with Ed, Rose, Rory, Jack, George, Eddie, Josie, and all of Tatiana’s cousins and friends and the amazing doctors who tried so hard.”

Shriver further promised that “those of us left behind will make sure” Tatiana’s children always know “what a beautiful, courageous spirit their mother was and will always be.”

But we have to do it, and at least we will have the satisfaction of knowing we made things better.”
