Kevin Federline has reacted to the news of ex-wife Britney Spears’ arrest for driving under the influence.
“Kevin hopes for the best for Britney,” Federline’s attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan said on the dancer’s behalf in a statement to TMZ on Friday, March 6. “And if help is necessary, he hopes that she will neither resist it or those who are attempting to work with her.”
Kaplan added that he and Federline, 47, have spoken to Spears, 44, since her arrest on Wednesday, March 4.
“The concern is whether this is just a one off or a one more,” the statement concluded.
Us Weekly confirmed that Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Ventura County, California, on Wednesday. According to 911 dispatch audio obtained by Us, Spears’ black BMW was allegedly driving “in and out of lanes” and “speeding,” per the operator. The operator also noted that the vehicle was seen erratically “braking, swerving and driving with no taillight.”
After officers pulled Spears over, the pop star allegedly showed signs of impairment, and she submitted to a series of field sobriety tests. Spears reportedly visited the hospital to test her blood alcohol content. Chemical test results are pending, and the incident remains under investigation.

Following the incident, Spears’ rep told Us that the pop star is cooperating with the authorities.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” Spears’ rep told Us. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
The rep added that Spears and Federline’s sons Sean Preston, 20 and Jayden James, 19, will be by their mom’s side following the incident.
“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being,” the statement concluded.
Spears is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, May 4.
Federline and Spears were married from 2004 to 2007. The pair welcomed Preston in September 2005 followed by Jayden in September 2006. Two months after welcoming Jayden, Spears filed for divorce from Federline. Their divorce was finalized the following year.
After splitting from Federline, Spears had a series of public personal struggles, In 2008, Federline was granted sole custody of their sons while the “Toxic” singer was placed under a conservatorship managed by her father, Jamie Spears. Britney’s conservatorship was terminated 13 years later in 2021.
