Luke Macfarlane‘s character on Platonic didn’t exactly win big on Jeopardy! — but how well would the actor do on the game show?
“Here’s the truth, I was asked to do Celebrity Jeopardy! I agreed to do it but then at the last minute my schedule changed and I couldn’t do it. I think I would do relatively well on Celebrity Jeopardy!,” Macfarlane, 45, exclusively told Us Weekly while promoting his hit Apple TV+ show Platonic. “But Celebrity Jeopardy! is not real Jeopardy!”
Macfarlane would like to have a successful stint on Jeopardy!
“Celebrity Jeopardy! is a little bit watered down for the celebrity. So I think I [would] do pretty well. I watch real Jeopardy!” he noted. “And I always do pretty well on final Jeopardy because I can take the song time to come up with the answers. But the rapid fire, that is tough.”
The actor got the chance to live out his dream of competing on the ABC quiz show while filming the Wednesday, August 25, episode of Platonic. After being a massive fan of Jeopardy!, Charlie (Macfarlane) got the chance to participate — only to freeze up once cameras were on him.

“I’m a big fan of Jeopardy! [So filming this] — I don’t even think our incredible writers knew that about me. But I knew exactly how the show worked. In fact, I think I even gave them a couple of suggestions,” Macfarlane recalled. “I was like, ‘I think it would actually make more sense if we kind of did it just the way the show works.’ But I love the show.”
He continued: “I was a huge fan of [host] Ken Jennings. Most of my preparation was, ‘Don’t be a complete nerd in front of Ken Jennings.’ What a cool dude. He was just bright, funny and awesome.”
Platonic, which premiered in May 2023, explores a rekindled friendship between former childhood best friends — Will (Seth Rogen) and Sylvia (Rose Byrne) — as adults. Macfarlane plays Sylvia’s husband, Charlie.
While Platonic viewers didn’t get a chance to see Macfarlane’s character make it big on Jeopardy!, they will get to follow Charlie as he goes through a midlife crisis. Macfarlane spoke to Us about the upcoming season, which is when he revealed which of his former costars from past projects he still hoped to bring onto the show.
“I can say this now. I actually really tried to get Matthew Rhys to do a part in Bros. Ultimately he wasn’t able to do it and ultimately the scene was cut anyway — so it was the wrong thing to do. But I would love to do that [on Platonic],” he told Us. “I’ve also said I would love to see Sally Field — who’s one of the funniest people ever — show up in the Platonic universe somehow.”
New episodes of Platonic air Wednesdays on Apple TV+.
