NFL quarterback Philip Rivers and his wife, Tiffany, have 10 kids and one grandchild — the perfect number to field their own football starting lineup.
While the Chargers legend and Indianapolis Colts veteran will be the first to tell you raising 10 kids as a professional athlete isn’t easy (as if you needed to be told), there also seems to be nothing he enjoys more than spending time with them.
“Kids want our time, more than anything,” he told Uproxx in 2016, back when his household had only eight kids. “Sometimes the time is limited, and that’s just what it is. We have days, long weekends, but even if it’s just 10 minutes one day, if you really give them that 10 minutes, that’s the most valuable thing we can give them.”

Steve
Philip’s father, Steve, was a linebacker at Mississippi State University in the 1970s. Though his playing career was over by the time Philip was born, he’s the one who taught the quarterback about pigskin.
“I still ask my dad for help even at 35 years old,” Philip told Uproxx. “He taught me how to shave, tie a tie, mow the grass, and throw a football. Even now I’ll call him to ask him about something. His opinion still matters, and I care about it. There’s something special about that advice and love you can only get from your dad.”
Joan
Philip’s mother, Joan, is a middle school teacher in Alabama, teaching math and religion, as of 2019, according to ESPN. While Philip inherited his skill on the football field from his dad, he credited his mom with his competitive nature in a 2014 interview with San Diego news reporter Lisa Remillard.
“Everybody thinks [because] my dad was a football coach, all the competitive juices came from my dad, but my mom doesn’t play anything unless we’re keeping score,” he said.

Stephen
Philip’s brother, Stephen, played college football as well. Standing at 6’8’’, he began his career at LSU, where he was believed to be the tallest quarterback in school history. Stephen later transferred to Vanderbilt and finished his playing career at Northwestern State.
Tiffany
Philip’s relationship with his wife, Tiffany, dates all the way back to middle school, and the couple married in 2001 as freshmen at NC State.
“Our family wouldn’t be what it is without her. She provides a great steadiness for all of us,” Philip said in a 2019 interview for the Chargers’ website. “She’s great for me also from a football standpoint as far as balancing my energy and passion I have for football. And she’s the same with our family.”
Halle
Philip and Tiffany’s eldest daughter, Halle, joined the family in July 2002, between the couple’s sophomore and junior years at NC State. She told Chargers.com that because her dad has been in the public eye since the day she was born, his fame quickly became normal for her.

“He’s so selfless,” she said. “He’s an NFL quarterback; he’s doing a million different things every day, but every day he comes home, and he wants to be with us. If he has one extra minute that he could do something else, he’ll be with us.”
Halle welcomed a son of her own in 2024, officially making Philip and Tiffany grandparents.
Caroline
In 2005, the same year Philip began his NFL career, he and Tiffany welcomed Caroline. Philip told the Indianapolis Star in 2020 that he and Caroline are “a lot alike.”
“Caroline is very strong-willed, and I say that as a huge compliment,” he said. “She’s kind of a go-getter in that regard.”

Grace
Grace, born in 2006, has earned the nickname “combo” from her parents because she takes after both of them. As Philip told the Star, she is “versatile,” happy to play whiffle ball in the yard with her brothers or go shopping with her sisters.
Gunner
Philip and Tiffany’s eldest son, Gunner, joined the fray in 2008. At age 5, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes — something Tiffany said the entire family had to adjust to.
“There’s no known cause or no known cure,” she told People in 2019. “It was hard to hear that, but it also brought some peace just knowing that it just happened to affect him. You can have the testing done to see if you carry the gene for it, but we didn’t have any idea about that at the time.”
Sarah
Sarah is the couple’s middle child, born in 2010, but as Philip told the Star, she refuses to be overshadowed by her siblings.
“Sarah’s got a big personality, loves to talk,” he said. “She is chatty, and I say that in a good way.”

Peter
Peter was born in 2011, but already, his dad sees him as a budding receiver, playing alongside Gunner, the quarterback.
“He kind of reminds me of a little slot receiver,” Philip told the Star.
Rebecca
Philip and Tiffany welcomed Rebecca in 2013, and the legendary quarterback describes her as “strong willed” — in a good way.
“Sometimes that trait can be deemed a negative, but I think the strong-willed ones usually end up doing awesome things,” he said.
Clare
Clare was born on October 28, 2015, exactly two years after Rebecca. Philip revealed to the Star that they call themselves “birthday sisters” and the two share a tight bond.

“Her facial expressions, the way she interacts with all of her siblings and us, she makes us laugh,” he told the Star.
Andrew
Philip and Tiffany waited four years before having their 10th child, son Andrew, who was born in 2023.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s the first child or the 10th child. It’s an awesome miracle every time,” Philip told People at the time. “Everyone is home now, and everyone is good.”
