Don’t make yourself right at home.

In a Reddit post titled “We don’t deserve good things,” an anonymous passenger aboard an Indian Railways train revealed the disturbing behavior of another traveler who kicked their feet up on the tray tables.

Sharing a photo of the scene to a Reddit forum — in which the traveler was lounging across the seats with their bare feet dangling on the counter — the anonymous user said they “felt so disgusted seeing her feet on trays meant for eating, just because the seats were empty.”

“Wish I had the guts to say something to her,” added the Redditor, who was on board a train from Varanasi to Delhi.

Speaking to Newsweek, the anonymous person said they “didn’t want to create a scene” by making a comment to the traveler.

“She had the whole row empty next to her, so she had her feet over the other seats for most of the journey,” the “disgusted” user said.

“Why would you keep your bare feet on other seats?” they exclaimed. “She kept them on the tray! Trays which we use to eat. I swear I could have thrown up.”

And she wasn’t the only one.

“Her husband was also on the other side of the aisle with an empty seat and his bare feet on the trays,” they continued. “I just had to let it go.”

But the photo drummed up controversy in the comments on Reddit, with people arguing over whether the passenger was in the wrong or if the Redditor is “overreacting.”

“I don’t think it’s much of a problem,” reasoned one person. “I understand you want things to go your way and I am sure that if things go your way then it would benefit us all but you need to be considerate of other people requirements too.”

“She’s behaving as if she’s in her own house, and thats uncalled for,” countered another.

“Idk if it’s the same but a lot of people deal with swelling in their feet while traveling long distances,” argued someone else. “She could’ve used the seat to raise her feet though, but still ignorable to an extent.”

“Then they need to buy compression socks,” one user replied. “Putting their feet where people eat is sh—y behavior.”

“I posted because a lot of people in India complain about not having the privilege that westerners usually do. One of them being super fast trains. But after we get it, we don’t appreciate it; rather, [we] treat it as garbage,” the original poster told Newsweek.

“I realize keeping your legs on the tray might be an exaggeration of this — it’s not destroying anything — but it is still an example, alongside being disgusting.”
