Southern Charm’s Venita Aspen is not so charmed by costar Craig Conover’s recent comments about her.

In an interview with Deadline published Wednesday, April 2, Aspen, 31, said she is “disappointed” after Conover, 36, recently declared he would no longer be “associated” with her after she expressed loyalty to Conover’s ex Paige DeSorbo in their recent breakup.

“I don’t operate like that from a friendship level, even if it’s a new friend, an old friend, or a friend that I’ve had back and forth with,” Aspen said.

“I think that I would have preferred him to be the quarterback that he is and lead his teammates in whatever direction he wanted us to go to versus deeming people who go against whatever he wants unworthy of friendship. We don’t talk, so what was I supposed to do?” she added.

The Southern Charm stars can’t get enough of each other — and that’s created a dizzying web of relationships, break ups and drama. Beginning with season 1, which premiered in 2014, OG stars Craig Conover, Shep Rose and Kathryn Dennis let fans see the good, the bad and the messy parts of their romantic relationships. […]

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in March, Aspen said she had contacted DeSorbo following her breakup from Conover, but not her Southern Charm costar. “I have a closer relationship with Paige than I do [with] Craig,” Aspen said.

Last week, during his own WWHL appearance, Conover shared his reaction. “If I’m being honest, I won’t be associated with her because as I get older, my [friendship] circle gets tighter and tighter. It wasn’t about being on Paige’s side, you can be Paige’s friend,” he said, adding that he believes Aspen “regurgitated” gossip about him. “I’m not friends with her. I wish her well, but no one’s entitled to my friendship, and she definitely isn’t anymore.”

Aspen said that Summer House star DeSorbo reached out to her after Conover’s WWHL appearance. “She was quite disappointed in what she saw, and she reached out to me to check in [and] to make sure I was doing OK, which is really nice,” Aspen shared.

As for where she and Conover stand now, Aspen said the ball is in his court.

“I think it would have to come from him, because I’ve never been one to shut him out or say I’m not interested in being friends with him based off of things he said about me in the past,” Aspen explained.

“If he would want to take the time to schedule something to talk to me, or pick up the phone, or send a text message, like most people do, I would highly appreciate it, but I’m not going to be the one to make the first move on that,” she continued. “He’s already declared what he wants. So who might go against that, right?”
