The Summer I Turned Pretty is coming to an end but what has been teased about the conclusion — including who Belly ultimately chooses?
Based on Jenny Han‘s book trilogy, Prime Video’s hit series follows a love triangle between Belly (Lola Tung) and brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). The Summer I Turned Pretty served as the inspiration for season 1 while It’s Not Summer Without You was the basis for season 2.
Viewers were expecting season 3 to rely heavily on the events in Han’s third and final book in the series: We’ll Always Have Summer. Han, however, has hinted that she wouldn’t be sticking strictly to the source material for the show’s conclusion.
“There are the things that [fans] know and then there are things they think they know, and then there’s going to be, hopefully, things that surprise them,” she told Entertainment Weekly in May 2025 about the final season.
Han hasn’t given too many details of how exactly the series ends — but she has defended the direction the show has taken. In response to a September comment on TikTok claiming Han “gave us NOTHING,” the show creator replied, “I gave you the last 4 years of my life. I have given all I have to give, enjoy!”
Ahead of the series finale, keep scrolling for every tease of how the show concludes:
Making Changes
Han teased the final episodes in a July interview with Elite Daily, saying, “I always knew how I wanted to end the books. But with the show, I went into it with an open mind. I wanted to approach it with fresh eyes and just see what sort of magic happened on screen. I am somebody who is always changing things up.”
She continued: “People will be like, ‘Why are you changing that? That was working well!’ But to me, it could always be better.”
Leaving Room for Growth
During a July episode of the “Wild Card With Rachel Martin” podcast, Han hinted she preferred a “hopeful ending.”
“But I don’t like too neat of an ending, personally,” she added. “That is the tragedy of the story, is that no matter what, you’re going to be hurting somebody that you love dearly.”
Will Belly Make a Choice?

“Well, she doesn’t. I don’t think she has to choose one,” she said on the “Wild Card With Rachel Martin” podcast. In a separate interview with CBS Morning Show, Han was asked if there will be a definitive answer about Belly’s love life, to which she replied, “I would say so.”
Addressing Expectations
“Everybody at some point throughout the show, throughout all three seasons, will be a little bit heartbroken,” Tung told E! News in July. “It’s just how it goes. And there is heartache that comes with love and with big love stories and with complicated love stories.”
She continued: “I hope that they are satisfied with the story and the journey because I think Jenny did such a good job with it. We had so much fun filming it and I feel very proud of it. I think it’s going to be pretty epic.”
Support for the Conclusion
Tung told EW that Han is “never going to do anything that doesn’t make sense” for The Summer I Turned Pretty.
“Every season and every decision about what’s coming next is purely to serve the story,” Tung shared in March about what she’s “always admired” about Han. “It’s all about this beautiful world she’s created and giving the fans something really, really special and giving us something really special to work with.”
