Liam Payne’s ex-fiancée, Maya Henry, has broken her silence in a new statement four months after the One Direction singer’s death. “Initially, it was the drug use and addictions that tore us apart. Anyone who has been with an addict understands how difficult that is. While I loved him deeply, he did things that hurt me in ways I’ll never fully understand, and he continued to hurt me years after we broke up,” Henry told Rolling Stone in a cover story published Tuesday, February 11, referring to Payne as “someone I loved very much.” Henry recalled Payne becoming “unrecognizable” and “so different from his sober self” when he was using drugs, claiming, “I loved him so much that I convinced myself I could fix things.” The former couple dated for three years, ultimately calling off their engagement in 2022. Payne died at age 31 last October after falling from a third-story balcony at a hotel in Argentina. An autopsy revealed that he had multiple drugs in his system.
