James Kennedy is seriously focused on his sobriety after his domestic violence arrest.

“James and [girlfriend Ally Lewber] are still living apart but haven’t broken up,” a source close to the couple exclusively told Us Weekly on Monday, January 13. “James has been super focused on self-improvement and his sobriety and doing well. He’s been attending a schedule of meetings and support and taking it very seriously.”

The source added, “He’s also been in the studio making music, working out and spending time with good friends and his dog. He’s optimistic about the new year and really emphasizing his health and wellness.” Us has reached out to Lewber’s reps for comment.

Kennedy’s latest sobriety update comes one day after Lewber, 29, an astrologist, teased “new beginnings” for 2025 via TikTok on Sunday, January 12.

“This year is a transition,” she said. “We are moving into new territory that we haven’t experienced ever, or in a really long time. We’re all experiencing and cocreating a new reality together. So it’s really up to us on how we want to show up this year.”

Lewber also said to “expect change” in 2025, which she noted is “not easy, but always rewarding.”

“Remember that it is OK to feel, it’s great to feel,” Lewber continued. “Again, we’re human. But it’s also nice to just remember that we are just in the process of change. There is still so, so, so much magic to look forward to this year.”

Us confirmed in December 2024 that Kennedy, 32, had been arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence after Burbank Police responded to a call “regarding an argument between a man and a woman.” A witness claims they saw Kennedy allegedly grab a woman and throw her to the ground, but officers who responded to the scene reportedly did not see any visible injuries on the woman. Kennedy was later released on a $20,000 bond.

“We are in the process of conducting our own investigation into the allegations levied by the Burbank Police Department against James,” Kennedy’s attorneys said in a statement to Us at the time. “We understand that there were no injuries and we are hoping that, after careful review, the city’s attorneys will decide not to file formal charges.”

Lewber and Kennedy have been dating since 2022. Days after his arrest, Lewber broke her silence via Instagram Story, thanking “everyone who has reached out with love and support and for checking in on me.” She continued, “I’m OK and taking the time I need right now. I deeply appreciate all the kindness and respect for my privacy during this time.”

After the incident, a source exclusively told Us that Lewber and Kennedy were taking “some distance” from each other for the time being, but when it comes to their relationship “it’s not over.”
