Another GMA3 switcharoo! DeMarco Morgan exited the third hour of Good Morning America in June 2025 after only two years on the job.
Morgan joined ABC News as a correspondent and guest anchor in 2022, after previously working in news at a local and national level since 2004. Morgan got an unexpected promotion to hosting GMA3 when former anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach were dropped by ABC in the wake of their romance being outed in November 2022.
In May 2023, Morgan, medical correspondent Jennifer Ashton and Eva Pilgrim were named the new permanent hosts of GMA3 — later rebranded as GMA: The Third Hour in July 2025 following Morgan’s exit. (Ashton exited the show in July 2024.)
Another shakeup was announced in July 2025 when both Morgan and Pilgrim left the GMA3 as part of ABC News’ overhaul of the format. (Pilgrim has since joined Inside Edition as a host.)

Who Is DeMarco Morgan?
Morgan worked in journalism for 20 years before he was hired by ABC News in 2022. He got his start at a CBS affiliate in Jackson, Mississippi, in 2004, and later worked for NBC affiliates in Miami and New York City.
After joining MSNBC news as a fill-in anchor, he moved to CBS’ Los Angeles station, KCBS, to anchor the morning newscast in May 2019. He was promoted to a national role during the COVID-19 pandemic before leaving for ABC News in 2022.

“I will say thank you to everyone behind the scenes,” he said during his final CBS broadcast in April 2022. “Thank you to so many people who wake up in the middle of the night just to make sure that I look good. This has been a wonderful journey. … I was telling someone last night, ‘There was a little boy in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a curl in the second grade who was watching the space shuttle Challenger explode, and he was watching Dan Rather and that’s when he was bitten by the broadcasting bug.’”
Why Did DeMarco Morgan Replace T.J. Holmes on ‘GMA3?’
The former CBS News personality and colleague Stephanie Ramos started emceeing the ABC morning show in December 2022 after Robach and Holmes were pulled from the broadcasts.
Robach and Holmes first made headlines in November 2022 when the Daily Mail published a series of photos of the duo looking cozy. The broadcasters — who were married to Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig, respectively, at the time— initially did not address the images or the status of their preexisting relationships.
The former CNN anchor and the Better Together author returned to work one day after news of the scandal broke as if nothing had changed.
“Amy and T.J. have been arriving to work pretending like everything is normal, they have been carrying on like they would any other day,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly at the time. “The GMA staff, for the most part, all knew that something was happening between Amy and T.J., they were always playful with each other, like two people who were dating. Amy and T.J. didn’t seem like they were trying to keep their relationship secret anymore, everyone around the office could tell there was a spark between them for many months.”

ABC executives ultimately decided the following month to pull Robach and Holmes from TV and they were formally let go that January. Robach and Holmes later went public with their romantic relationship, with an insider revealing to Us in June 2025 that an engagement was on the horizon.
Us reported in February 2025 that Robach and Holmes’ exes Shue and Fiebig had moved in together after finding love together in the wake of the scandal.
Why Did DeMarco Morgan Leave ‘GMA3’?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic sent a note to staff in July 2025 to announce that Morgan had “decided to begin a new journey and will be departing ABC News.”
“His devotion to journalism and sharing with others is evident in everything he touches,” Karamehmedovic wrote to ABC News employees. “We thank him for his kindness and many contributions, wish him well, and look forward to celebrating his next chapter soon.”

His cohost Pilgrim left ABC at the same time to join Inside Edition. Following their departures, ABC announced significant restructuring of GMA3 and other brands due to layoffs.
GMA3 was rebanded GMA: The Third Hour, while ABC News grouped its overnight programming with The Third Hour and Good Morning America as a cost-cutting measure. A rotating set of GMA personalities — including Lara Spencer, Will Reeve, Gio Benitez and Sam Champion — were enlisted to host The Third Hour.
