Skopelos: ‘An island that moves at the right pace’
But what does Just One For The Road say about Skopelos? The author places it in second on his list of “destinations that I adored” and notes the following: “Skopelos immediately slowed me down. It is greener than most Greek islands, with pine forests stretching to the coastline and beaches hidden at the end of winding roads or paths. The famous Mamma Mia! filming locations are fun, but what stuck with me were the quieter moments, swimming in clear bays, wandering the narrow streets of Skopelos town and eating long, relaxed, delicious dinners by the harbour.
“There’s history everywhere too: tiny Byzantine chapels dotting the hills, old stone houses and the feeling that life on the island hasn’t changed that much. Skopelos is not fancy, it’s calm, authentic and deeply relaxing.”
Andros: ‘A different side of the Cyclades’
Andros, an island in the Cyclades very close to Athens, came in ninth place. “Andros does not fit the typical Cycladic model and that’s exactly why I loved it,” the author writes. “The island is greener, more rugged and shaped by ancient paths winding through valleys, waterfalls and villages. I found hiking here useful, connecting monasteries, beaches and local communities.
“The beaches were quiet and varied, from sandy bays to wild, pebbly coves. Add museums, bakeries and family-run tavernas and Andros became one of the most authentic Greek islands I’ve visited.”
Just One For The Road’s 2026 list includes a total of 13 destinations from around the world that stand out for their natural beauty, culture and authenticity. In addition to the Greek island presence, the list includes destinations from France, Vietnam, Slovenia, Croatia, Spain, Bulgaria, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and Borneo.
The travel blog author added: “These are destinations I didn’t just visit – they stayed with me. Whether through landscapes, food, history, wildlife or everyday moments, each offers something meaningful and memorable. If you’re planning travel in 2026 and want places that go beyond the obvious, this is the list I’d start with.”
