The wife of Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Blake Snell shared a throwback video from the baseball star’s notorious rap career to celebrate his performance in Game 1 of the NLCS.
Haeley Snell posted a clip via her Instagram Story from the 2012 track “Rising Stars,” which features her husband, 32, rapping while wearing a Tampa Bay Rays hat.
“You keep it amateur while I keep it pro,” Blake raps in the video, while showing off a baseball card with his name and image on it.
Blake was selected by the Rays in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft.
After stints with the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants, Snell signed a five-year, $182 million contract with the Dodgers in November 2024, the third largest for a left-handed pitcher in major league history based on total value.
Blake and Haeley, 31, got married in January, and they share two sons: Kaedyn, born in June 2024, and another born in August.
“Welcome to the world, our little love,” Haeley shared via Instagram on August 30, without revealing the newborn’s name.
Blake pitched a gem in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, October 13.
In eight innings of work, Blake gave up just one hit, no runs and had 10 strikeouts. The Dodgers won, 2-1, to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
“Postseason, if you dominate and you do great, no one can say anything,” Blake said after the game about the postseason expectations that come with his monster contract. “That’s probably the best feeling is you get to prove yourself right, or you get to go out there and you fail. But at least you get to learn and grow and see who you are and how do you get better from it.’’
Blake added, “To be here now, it’s a dream come true. I couldn’t wish for anything more. I’m just going to do the best I can to help us win a World Series.”
Dodgers star Freddie Freeman gushed about Blake’s performance after the Game 1 win, saying he couldn’t think of a more dominant postseason performance “off the top of my head.”
“Sometimes it takes an inning or two for someone to settle in,” Freeman, 36, said. “It was from the get-go. It was a masterpiece tonight. He’s amazing. There’s a reason he’s a two-time Cy Young Award winner. He’s on the big stage now, and he’s just doing what he’s always done.”
The Brewers, who had the best record in the MLB during the regular season, were flummoxed by Blake’s stuff all night at Milwaukee’s American Family Field.
“It seemed like he was hitting corners with everything,” said Brewers second baseman Brice Turang. “It felt like the ball was just sort of disappearing once it got to the box. He was commanding the zone. He was throwing every pitch for a strike.”
Brewers center fielder Sal Frelick added, “He was definitely on his game tonight. Executed and really didn’t give us too many good pitches to hit. We face a ton of really good pitchers, right? And when we see guys like that, you kind of got to choke up on the bat, find a way to get on base. We didn’t do that tonight.”
The Dodgers and Brewers meet in Game 2 on Tuesday, October 14.
