A Thousand Tomorrows got Netflix viewers invested in a heartbreaking love story — but could there be a season 2?
Based on Karen Kingsbury‘s 2005 novel, A Thousand Tomorrows follows a pair of rodeo riders — Cody Gunn (Colin Ford) and Ali Daniels (Rose Reid) — whose love helps them overcome their fears. The show originally debuted on Great American Pure Flix in 2023 before being brought to Netflix two years later.
The faith-based romance got Us invested in Cody and Ali’s story before revealing that (spoiler alert!) she has cystic fibrosis. By the season 1 finale, Ali’s long health battle resulted in her contracting pneumonia. She was unable to recover and ultimately died.
Despite the shocking death, Kingsbury has previously teased the possibility of a second season. Kingsbury noted in a 2023 interview with Movie Guide that she has more episodes “outlined,” which would take inspiration from the second book in her Cody Gunner series, Just Beyond the Clouds.
The sequel continues the story of Cody and expands the fictional universe by following his younger brother Carl, who has Down syndrome. Despite teasing a continuation, Kingsbury recently took to social media to shut down reports that the show had already been renewed.
“I actually never confirmed a season 2 of A Thousand Tomorrows … but … there is another book in the series,” she wrote via Instagram on Saturday, September 6. “And now you’ve made Season 1 TOP 5 on @netflix! So, would you like to see a season 2 of A Thousand Tomorrows?”

When A Thousand Tomorrows originally premiered in 2023, Ford, 28, reflected on how pivotal the role was for him after considering a change in careers.
“There’s been a few points in a period of time in my life where I’ve questioned [if I should be acting],” Ford told Movie Guide. “Ironically, before I got A Thousand Tomorrows, I was in bed. I had been a little discouraged [in] some meetings that had been going on and was just, you know, praying to God and wondering if this is the right thing for me.”
Ford was thrilled to be offered A Thousand Tomorrows because of his own faith.
“That right there was kind of a message. I just feel like I have [had these] little times in my life [demonstrating] the power of prayer and I hear God’s response in one way or the other. So that’s how I know,” he added. “Being a man of faith, someone who obviously wants to share that with as many people as possible, and having a series like A Thousand Tomorrows … I think it’s a joy for me to get to share that with the world.”
Ford continued: “We go through things in life, we have trials and tribulations, and we often feel like we’re very alone in our struggle. And I think this story shows you that you’re not alone in your struggle. I think that through faith and support systems that you set in place, you can get through anything.”
A Thousand Tomorrows is currently streaming on Netflix.
