Andy Reid gave a positive update on the wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who was shot earlier this week.
Mia Bieniemy suffered “multiple gunshot wounds” at the couple’s home in Ashburn, Virginia, and was originally in stable condition and hospitalized.
“She’s doing great. She’s doing better and great from where she was,” Reid told reporters from training camp on Wednesday. “Out of the ICU unit, happy about that. EB is still with her, that part’s important.”
Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Leah Pau said Monday that police arrived at a home located on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn, Virginia, Sunday evening and arrested the couple’s 27-year-old son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy. He was arrested on charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling, according to a press release by the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office.

Elijah was also transported to the Loudon County Adult Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
The Chiefs had coaches, rookies and quarterbacks report to camp at St. Joseph, Missouri, on the campus of Missouri Western State, on Friday. Veteran players reported on Tuesday.
Bieniemy, 56, returned to the Chiefs this year as their offensive coordinator after spending time with the Washington Commanders, Chicago Bears and UCLA’s football program.

As offensive coordinator in Kansas City from 2018-22, Bieniemy oversaw one of the league’s most productive offenses to become an AFC stalwart, winning two Super Bowls in his tenure.
