Aside from his Hollywood stardom, Brad Pitt has a close relationship with some of his family members.
Brad was born in December 1963 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, but his family later relocated to Springfield, Missouri, when he was young. His parents, William Pitt and Jane Etta Pitt, also share son Doug Pitt and daughter Julie Pitt Neal, born in 1966 and 1969, respectively.
In August 2025, Brad’s niece Sydney Pitt confirmed that Jane had died at the age of 84.
“My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart. She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked.”
Sydney explained that Jane taught her “how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things.”
“She made up the silliest games just to make us laugh, and she believed in fairness, in putting others first, and doing good simply because it was the right thing to do,” she said, noting there was “no limit” to the love her grandmother gave. “I don’t know how we move forward without her. But I know she’s still here in every brushtroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird. She was love in its purest form. We were truly blessed to have her to love on growing up and I know she lives on through each of us.”
Brad has yet to publicly address his mother’s death.

William Pitt

William and Jane, who tied the knot in 1962, welcomed Brad, Doug and Julie in 1963, 1966 and 1969, respectively. Brad later shared that William ran a trucking company while he was growing up.
“My dad worked five and a half, six days a week, and then he would take us fishing,” Brad told Parade in a 2011 interview. “He’d do that all weekend, then start work again. I have immense appreciation for that now that I’m a parent, knowing what you have to do to carve out time for your kids. I know how taxing that was on him.”
Brad also touched on how his dad encouraged him to have a “be-capable” and “be-strong” attitude — which came from William’s own upbringing.
“He had grown up in extreme hardship and poverty, always dead set on giving me a better life than he had — and he did it,” Brad told The New York Times in a 2019 interview. “But he came from that stoic ilk.”
Jane Pitt

Aside from marrying William and welcoming three children, Jane was a school counselor. Throughout the years, Jane was supportive of Brad’s career, attending several of his movie premieres and award shows.
Just weeks before her passing, Brad gave a touching on-air tribute to his mom on the Today show.
“I gotta say hi to my mom ‘cause she watches you every morning … To Jane Pitt, love you, mom,” he said before blowing her a kiss.
In August 2025, TMZ reported that Jane had died at the age of 84. Brad’s niece Sydney confirmed the news via Instagram, noting that Jane had the “biggest heart” and she “cared deeply for everyone and everything.”
Doug Pitt

Doug is Brad’s younger brother who was born in November 1996 in St. Louis Missouri. He went on to attend Southwest Missouri State University where he graduated from in 1990.
Doug started his own computer company, ServiceWorld Computer Center, in 1991. The business merged with the technology firm TSI in 2013 before Doug reacquired operations to launch Pitt Technology Group in 2017, per the company website. Doug also started the real estate business Pitt Development Group in 2014.
Aside from his business, Doug is involved in philanthropy organizations as well including serving on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Make-A-Wish, Easter Seal the Red Cross and various community task forces in Springfield.
In 2007, Doug founded the organization Care to Learn, which focuses on addressing children’s immediate health, hunger and hygiene needs to support their academic success. Doug was later appointed as the first Goodwill Ambassador for the United Republic of Tanzania in 2010.
“I’m a businessman first, although I probably get more recognition in the philanthropic space,” Dough said in a 2021 interview for A World On Purpose. “I’m wired as a business person, so everything I do, everything I touch, the way I try to lead, the things I choose to be involved in, there’s definitely going to be some business acumen in the process and how we do it.”
As for his personal life, Doug has been married to his wife, Lisa Pitt, for over 30 years and the couple share daughters Sydney and Reagan and son Landon.
Julie Neal
Brad’s younger sister, Julie, was born in 1969 and grew up in Springfield, Missouri. Julie has kept out of the spotlight for the most part, but she is focused on her life as a wife, mother and advocate.
Julie has been married to her husband, Rob Neal, for over 30 years and the couple share five kids: Cruz, Rylie, Caleb, Caden and Josie. Julie and Rob adopted their sons Caden and Cruz from Ethiopia.
“Honestly, I lived in a bubble here in our town with my three older kids, and I really didn’t think about much beyond here, and God just called my family to adopt,” Julie said in a 2018 interview with WorldServe International. “We have the space, the love … all of our kids were on board.”
Julie now serves as a water ambassador for WorldServe International where Doug also serves on the board.
Jennifer Aniston

Brad and his first ex-wife, Aniston, started dating after they were set up by their agents in 1998.
“We both [knew] on our first date,” Aniston told Diane Sawyer in a 2004 interview about their chemistry, noting it was a “really easy evening” and “really fun.”
The pair got engaged the following year and tied the knot in July 2000 in a Malibu wedding.
After months of speculation that Brad cheated with Angelina Jolie while filming their action movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Aniston and Brad announced their split in January 2005, noting their decision was “not the result of any speculation reported by the tabloid media.”
Angelina Jolie

Jolie and Brad met while filming the 2005 action film Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Brad was still married to Aniston at the time. After finalizing his divorce from Aniston, the duo made their relationship public. Jolie adopted son Maddox in 2002 and daughter Zahara in 2005. Jolie gave birth to daughter Shiloh with Brad in 2006. Jolie later adopted son Pax in 2007, and Brad later adopted him in 2008. Their twins, Knox and Vivienne, were born in 2008.
After welcoming their six children, Brad and Jolie tied the knot in France in August 2014. The pair called it quits two years later, citing irreconcilable differences.
Despite a messy divorce and custody battle, Jolie and Brad settled their divorce eight years later in December 2024.
“I don’t think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally,” Pitt told GQ in a May 2025 interview regarding his divorce settlement.
Maddox Jolie-Pitt
Maddox was born in August 2001 in Cambodia. Jolie adopted Maddox seven months later followed by Pitt in 2006. Brad and Jolie’s oldest son enrolled in South Korea’s Yonsei University in 2019.
“I’m so happy for [Maddox] that he’s grown up into such a good man,” she told Entertainment Tonight in October 2019. “I say that ‘cause he’s smart and he’s doing his work, but he’s also wild. He’s balanced in his teenage years.”
Maddox also worked as an executive producer on Jolie’s 2017 film First They Killed My Father, which is based on Loung Ung’s book about the Cambodian genocide by the Khmer Rouge regime.
Zahara Jolie-Pitt

Zahara was born in January 2005 in Hawassa, Ethiopia, and was adopted by Jolie and Brad when she was just seven-months old. In 2022, Zahara began attending Spelman College where she has since pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Jolie and Brad’s daughter has also started to play a role in her mom’s philanthropy efforts including meeting with lawmakers to advocate for the passage of the Justice for All Reauthorization Act of 2022.
Jolie has previously opened up about what a privilege it was to raise Zahara.
“My daughter is from Ethiopia, one of my children … And I have learned so much from her,” she said in a Time 100 Talk in July 2020. “She is my family, but she is an extraordinary African woman and her connection to her country, her continent is her own and it’s something I old stand back in awe of.”
Shiloh Jolie

Brad and Jolie’s first biological daughter, Shiloh, was born in May 2006 in Namibia, Africa. Similar to her other siblings, Shiloh has gotten involved in her mom’s humanitarian efforts and even went on a trip with Jolie to the Middle East for World Refugee Day when she was just 9 years old. She also loves dance and regularly practices at the Millennium Dance Complex studio in Los Angeles.
Pax Jolie-Pitt

Pax was born in November 2003 in Vietnam, but adopted by Jolie in 2007 followed by Brad in 2008. Jolie and Brad’s son has gotten involved in the film industry, making a small appearance in Jolie’s 2016 film Kung Fun Panda 3 and working in the assistant director department with Maddox on the 2024 film Without Blood.
“We work well together,” Jolie shared with People in August 2022 regarding working with Maddox and Pax on set of Without Blood. “When a film crew is at its best, it feels like a big family, so it felt natural.”
Knox and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt

Jolie and Brad welcomed twins Knox and Vivienne in July 2008.
While Knox has chosen to remain out of the spotlight for now, Vivienne has gotten involved in the film and theater business. In 2014, she appeared in Maleficent as the younger version of Elle Fanning’s character Aurora. Nearly a decade later, Vivienne served as an assistant on Jolie’s Broadway production of The Outsiders. The production later won four awards at the Tonys including best musical and best direction of a musical.
“As a mother, as a person, I was watching it, but I was really watching the effect it was having on my young daughter and what she was telling me about herself, and I was learning what about it was important to her and why it connected so deeply to her,” Jolie said in a June 2024 interview with Deadline. “It was a very different experience of understanding, of how this is having a significant effect on her as a young person right now, and she’s communicating something to me.”
