In an interview on Euronews’ flagship morning show Europe Today, Cyprus’ Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna described the opening of accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova during Cyprus’ rotating EU presidency as a “milestone”.

Following this step, Raouna says the presidency will remain “ambitious until the very last day” in pursuit of “more positive developments”.

Raouna also said Cyprus is acting as an “honest broker” on the EU’s long-term budget. “We proposed a moderate 2% cut, as a compromise”, Raouna said.

Cyprus has been at the helm of the EU for six months and is now preparing to hand over the rotating presidency to Ireland.
