28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is putting the pieces together in the horror franchise’s lore that began more than two decades ago.

The horror sequel is the fourth movie in the 28 Days Later universe, which initially starred Cillian Murphy. Bone Temple serves as a sequel to 2025’s 28 Years Later, and the two films were shot back-to-back.

Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Erin Kellyman and Chi Lewis-Parry all star in the movie, which picks up where 28 Years Later left off. Spike (Williams) is now quarantined amid the zombie virus outbreak and ultimately recruited to join the Fingers gang. How Does ’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ End?

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple ends with Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Jim from the first film, 28 Days Later. (Murphy’s involvement in the project was previously confirmed ahead of the movie’s release.)

At the end, fans get a glimpse of how Jim survived following the events of 28 Days Later. He can be seen with his daughter Sam at the same cottage that he, his love interest Selena (Naomie Harris) and young girl Hannah (Megan Burns) retreated to in the first movie. (It is unclear if Selena and Hannah survived since their characters do not appear in the scene, but Sam does have a resemblance to Selena.)

While the father-daughter duo are gathering around a kitchen table, Jim is giving Sam a lesson about World War 2. While discussing the historical event, Jim talks about how important it is to learn from mistakes made in history. They are subsequently alerted to a potential group of the infected headed their way.

As they prepare for battle, they see the zombies chasing after Spike and a woman named Kelly (Erin Kellyman), who survived the Fingers gang. Sam asks her dad if they are going to help the pair. While Jim hesitates at first, not wanting to put his daughter in harm’s way, he says yes. They then spring into action before the credits roll.

Will There Be a Sequel?

Yes! 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple ended on a cliffhanger as it is unclear if Jim, Sam, Spike and Kelly survive leaving room for a potential sequel. It was announced in January 2025 there would be a fifth movie with Danny Boyle confirming he would return to direct. Alex Garland will also return to write the script. The film’s name, cast and other additional details have yet to be revealed.
