The series premiere of Eternally Yours pulled off a major surprise twist — but what does that mean for the future of the show?
During the Thursday, October 8, episode of the CBS comedy, Max (Jaren Lewison) got off on the wrong foot with girlfriend Emma’s (Helen J. Shen) parents: Charles (Ed Weeks) and Liz (Allegra Edwards). He quickly learned that they were vampires, and by the end of the premiere, an accident led to Charles biting Max, making him a vampire as well.
“There’s so much to learn, right? I think that Max is really overwhelmed,” Lewison, 25, exclusively told Us about what comes next. “I know that it’s hard for Emma, of course, at times, because he’s asking so many questions.”
He continued: “There’s so much lore that he needs to get caught up on and he doesn’t understand why certain things have to be one way and certain things happen a different way.”
Shen, 26, for her part, pointed out that Max joining her family’s coven is a big step considering the couple have only been dating for a few months.
“Imagine after six weeks, the person that you’re dating and seeing has now moved in with you,” she noted. “It’s a lot.”
Lewison couldn’t help but agree, adding, “It’s a lot to learn and Max makes some mistakes accidentally and unintentionally. Sometimes he gets the coven into trouble as we’ll see in the subsequent episodes.”
The actor promised that the obstacles keep coming. “Maybe during Halloween something might be happening there,” he teased. “There’s a lot going on and it puts some stress sometimes on Emma and Max’s relationship, so they have to figure out how to work through that and communicate.”
Shen joked that “there are only so many rooms” in the house where the pair could go, with Lewison adding, “Not a lot of space to hide.”
From Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, Eternally Yours follows vampires Charles and Liz, whose marriage of 500 years has become monotonous.
“They live in present-day Seattle among an eccentric coven until their daughter Emma brings home Max, her human boyfriend, whose arrival disrupts the household and forces the couple to reckon with the prospect of an eternity together,” the synopsis teases about the rest of the season.
In addition to Weeks, Edwards, Shen and Lewison, Eternally Yours also stars Parker Young and Rose Abdoo.
Eternally Yours airs on CBS Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET. New episodes stream the next day on Paramount+.
