Jay Cutler has returned to his “Take It Outside” podcast after serving time in jail for his 2024 DUI.

Cutler, 52, appeared on the Tuesday, October 7, episode of the show, which he cohosts with retired Navy SEAL Sam Mackey, following a two-week absence in which Mackey served as the sole host. Tuesday’s episode saw the pair interview Whiskey Myers frontman Cody Cannon and guitarist and vocalist John Jeffers.

Cutler did not address his absence during the show.

The former NFL quarterback’s podcast return comes after he pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor DUI in August. Per a plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop the three other charges that had been brought against Cutler after his October 2024 arrest, which included gun possession while under the influence, violation of implied consent law and failure to exercise due care.

Multiple outlets reported on September 29 that Cutler had entered Williamson County Jail in Tennessee to begin serving his sentence. He was expected to be released on October 3. However, TMZ reported on October 2 that Cutler had been released early, citing records that revealed he had gotten out of jail the night before.

It’s unclear what led to Cutler’s early release. Us Weekly reached out to the jail for confirmation and comment.

Per the terms of his sentence, Cutler must now serve one year’s probation following his release.

Cutler was arrested in Franklin, Tennessee, in October 2024. The retired football player was driving his truck when he rear-ended another car, and police who interviewed Cutler at the scene “noticed a strong odor of alcohol,” according to a press release at the time. (The driver of the car filed a lawsuit against Cutler in September, Us exclusively reported.)

“Cutler was also slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes,” the release continued. “Cutler refused field sobriety tests and was taken to a local hospital where a blood sample was obtained through a blood search warrant.”

The release stated that two firearms were located in his truck, including “a loaded pistol.”

Cutler spent hours behind bars at the Williamson County Jail before being released on a $5,000 bond.

Cutler’s ex-wife, Kristin Cavallari, with whom he shares kids Camden, 13, Jaxon, 11, and Saylor, 9, addressed his arrest on her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast at the time.

“I will not be commenting on what happened,” she said. “I do, of course, wish Jay nothing but the best, and I do hope that he gets the help that he needs. But that’s the only thing that I will be saying about it publicly.”

Callari, 38, who was married to Cutler from 2013 to 2022, publicly sparred with her ex when she claimed in an August podcast episode that she has “never gotten a penny” from Cutler and “didn’t get any money” from their divorce.

Cutler denied the claim, saying on his podcast, “I think it’s reckless. I think it’s borderline slander to insinuate that there was zero dollars split during the marriage that each side got. It’s insanity. It’s completely false, completely untrue. It is, it just is. I’ve got a divorce decree. I’ve got something that’s signed by the judge — it’s, like, 67 pages — it says the number breakdown.”

Back in June, Cutler opened up to Us about his coparenting dynamic with Cavallari.

“The kids kind of do it. We’ve got our schedule and it works for us,” he said.
