The newest episode of The Kardashians offered a rare glimpse at Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian‘s infant son Rocky — and her parenting overall.
During the Thursday, November 27, episode of the Hulu series, Kourtney, 46, invited “controversial” psychoanalyst and parent coach Erica Komisar to discuss her outlook on attachment therapy.
“I had seen lots of her videos on social media and I felt compelled to reach out to her because she really focuses on 0 to 3 years of age,” Kourtney explained. “She says that that is the most important time developmentally for your child with attachment and being there for them.”
Kourtney was grateful for the insight after not always knowing how to approach motherhood. “When I was 30, I had [my first son] Mason [with ex Scott Disick] and nobody told me what to do.,” she said.I” didn’t read any books but the way that I felt my maternal instinct was to do attachment parenting.”
The reality star did more research before she had daughter Penelope, 13.
“I read the attachment parenting book and it was more intentional,” she continued. “Even though I was working, I didn’t really think it was an option to not work. Now I have the option not to work and I feel grateful to be able to find what I connect to.”
While Kourtney acknowledged that the expert could be “controversial,” she defended her perspective.
“I think most of it is because people are like, ‘Well, I can’t just not work and I need to work. We need both mom and dad to work.’ But I think her point is that she feels like our government should support moms and or dads to be home with their baby,” she explained.
Kourtney also reflected on her evolution as a mom compared to mom Kris Jenner.
“I just heard something recently about how things that you do that are the opposite of your parents are you healing yourself from something that you didn’t get that you needed,” she said. “I am a lot different as a mother than my mom was. She was definitely more controlling and still is. But it was the ’80s then so it was a different time. To me, I’m just like, ‘Live your best lives.’”
The reality star became a mom in 2009 when she welcomed son Mason, followed by daughter Penelope and son Reign in 2012 and 2014, respectively. Following her split from Scott, 42, Kourtney found love with Travis Barker and they expanded their family with son Rocky in November 2023.
Thursday’s episode offered a glimpse into Kourtney and Travis’ home life with Rocky. After walking up with Rocky in their bed, the couple enjoyed a quiet morning at home while eating breakfast with Rocky and then having him play while they watched over him.
